The cost would be high, are the Sharks willing to pay that price? It's no skin off NJ's ass to just say no, "you want him, pay us" should be their mentality.

What can you guys offer us? We need Defense? Got any middle pairing D that the Sharks would be willing to part with?

I'd be down for bringing in Kovy but what kind of money is he looking for at 34 years old?

This might be the deal in which we see DeMelo depart. I'm not really sure WHAT the Devils are going to be trying to get for Kovy. My guess is picks and prospects which would be good for the Sharks as we could potentially swing this deal without losing anyone we want on our active roster next season.

Kovy's value will likely be affected by how many teams he's willing to sign and trade with and he's real interest is going to be what's best for him, not the Devils. So it's a bit of an unknown as to what type of return he would bring right now.

I would have thought Ray Shero would have requested a list of at least a certain number of teams that Kovy would agree to play for but it was only reported that Ray agreed to have his agent speak with other teams directly.

Ultimately NJ won't give him away and they won't rebuild the franchise off the return they get either. That said, he's a great player and a deadly shot.

Its not letting me reply?

I'd be down depending on term and contract.

Only prospect I would not give up is Meier

Shero said it has to make sense for the devils which most likely means we will be look for a middle pairing defenseman and a bottom 6 forward don't think it's asking much for a player that can put up 40-60 points, boost a teams power play and possible put them over the top

Kings would probably offer Muzzin as he might be more expendable now that they signed Fattenburg. But like everyone is saying, we need to see what he signs for. Kings need a pure sniper

Focus on trying to make the team younger and not to bring yeat another above 34yo

Geez. Just try to get Nugent-Hopkins or Eberle out of Edmonton.

What would the Sharks be willing to part with ? As there are major risks to waiting out the Kovy situation. If you think you can just get him you are mistaken as we can say no and then you have to sign Kovalchuk who is another year older 35 to a 35 + contract and he has gone another year of no NHL. You would also be competing with every single team with cap space as he would be UFA. Also I am not sure what the other Devil poster in here is smoking as I would personally have 0 interest in a bottom 6 forward or some top 5 defender who has run his course. I expect Shero to want a first round pick ( 2018 as no 2017 picks can be used ) and a solid prospect or one grade A asset ( I don't consider a first in the 25-30 range A grade ) I am also pretty sure that is the price reported by BobbyMac and others.

Stop hating the Devils and let these other teams make all the mistake they want

I think if we can't make things work with Patty, Kovy would be a nice addition (esp being that I have heard elsewhere he is looking at a $5.5-6.5 mil pricetag). Admittedly, I think Kovy has the potential to add more to our team than Patty is adding right now (not that he's a slouch or anything), but the simple fact is that selfishly I want to see Patty retire a Shark...with a cup. I think if we sent like a Mueller/DeMelo and Boedeker the other way, it could work. Although, I have to admit, I've gotten to a point where I like every single Shark on the roster (and even about a dozen or so in the minors). There isn't ANYONE I want to see get moved...even losing Goldy and Wingles last year was rough. In the past there were players I would have been happy to see go, not anymore. I honestly think that all that stopped the Sharks this year was the fact that they had basically been playing hockey 2 years straight. Pens are still going, but they are a younger team, and that is where being an older team becomes a factor...bumps and bruises don't heal quite as fast.

In dreamland....there are some ever so slight rumblings that Ovie might get moved. If we HAVE to lose Patty, Ovie sliding in would be the last piece that would almost guarantee us a cup...and Ovie did grow up a Sharks fan. Dreamworld, I know...
