Furthermore, having a coach with more power than the GM is just a fundamentally stupid set-up. There is probably a good reason 29 teams do it differently.

So Chayka deserves a job because he bucks conventional thinking, yet the current structure is stupid because it bucks conventional thinking?

wipe the slobber off your chin.

has it been verified by more than 1 legit source the sabres wanted to talk to him?

the deals he made were easy ones to make. Can you even admit that at all?

Come on, you know damn well that isn't what it says.

Chayka is a young GM who had a very good first year, is wanted by other teams and is fluent in an knows about analytics - something the NHL is moving towards and that helps make your team better, no matter what people say or think.

I think the fact that he's young, open to analytics and perhaps more open to new ideas than an old guy is a good thing.

But this doesn't mean that I like or support anything just because it goes against conventional thinking. I mean, if he always carried around a coconut with him or something, that'd be pretty weird, despite the smashing of established mores that would occur, should he do such a thing.

This reminds me so much of "Why do you care how corrupt I am when you don't like James Comey anyways? "

I mean come on. Yes, I like like to defy convention, but not for the sake of it. Having a coach be the GMs boss is just a bad idea on so many levels.

They missed out on Marner too...intentionally.

What a laughstock of a franchise.

Good point- Alzner, Williams, Kuznetzov. Vastly different team by October for sure. I wonder if there is any thought to trading Ovechkin? I think you want to retain some of those free agents, and they could still have a competitive team if that cap hit is gone. Maybe a taker?
