An excellent blog. Wholeheartedly agree. I have nothing bad to say about Weber (not like he demanded to be traded here and had PK run out of town), but I'd still rather have Subban here. Oh well.

Subban is not the #1 D in Nashville like he was in MTL, not sure why we are still talking about this.

Put Josi, Subban, Ellis and Ekholm on the Habs D...of course they would be better.

If weber can mentor guys like sergachev, Juulsen and Mete like he did with josi, Ellis, Jones and ekholm then the trade is already a win.

Montreal lost because their center ice depth chart was Danault, Plekanec, Shaw and ott. They could have karlson and burns back there and still not made the final

"what if" they were banking on someone to bring the locker room together instead of splinter it? As well as teach the d prospects a thing or two? Subban is a really good player but he plays with no class on the ice. Nice that he gave money to the children's but that doesn't mean he can't be a wiener.

The current Habs had relative success when Subban was their #1D, they won 3 series (we could say 5 if we count the 2010 playoffs, but the team was completely different). They also had a 110 points season 2 years ago, being the team that allowed the fewest goals in the league.

The fact that Nashville has great D doesn't really make a difference.

The question is, was trading Subban for Weber worth it? Weber was supposed to help the team compete for the Cup in the next 3-4 years. Weber played great and it's not his fault if MB failed to improve his team, but the fact remains that the Habs failed in the playoffs this year.

If the Habs fail in the next 3-4 years, then the Habs will have traded their biggest asset for a player that won't be worth much, value wise, at around 35 years old.

We will never know if the Habs would be better with Subban right now, or with a 1C they could have potentially traded Subban for, or for a bunch of talented young players.

But the trade was supposed to put the Habs in "win now" mode, and so far, MB's plan hasn't worked out. It could change in the next few years though, we'll have to wait and see. But so far it's a failure.
