Ben Case: Darling Signed for Four Years, $16.6M-Good price or not? Caniac nation has been celebrating the past week. Many know that the Hurricanes traded a third round pick for Scott Darling from the Blackhawks. The Canes used the Senators 2017 third round pick which they acquired at the trade deadline for Stalberg. Looking at the trade cost, GMRF should be very excited.

Not to be a lurker, but you got a real solid goalie in Darling. There were serious considerations of the Hawks trying to move Crawford and sign Andy name Darling the starter. Now that was due in large part to the cap situation, and not that they think he is as good or better than Crawford, but it does say that they view him as a very capable starter.

Also, you have to view stats in context of the team around them and the system being used. The Hawks defense was brutal this year (don't get me started on the PK).tons of shots allowed and lots of high quality chances against. I get your concern, and I agree a 3 year deal would likely be the best way to go for the team, but I think by this time next year you will be happy with the results.

Imho I think that's a good deal, with the dmen they have and some of the younger guys it should be a exciting team to watch! Best of luck at the draft and in the offseason

I had been on the Flames threads a while back saying I hoped Treliving went after Darling to replace Elliott. That said I completely agree with this entire blog. I would have loved to see the Flames get him, but this contract is far too generous for such a limited body of work.

Excellent breakdown. I do believe Darling will work out for you. But with that being said i also thought Lack was just what you guys needed, And too a lesser extent Khouboudin. It almost feels that having traded the third rounder for him the Canes felt they had to sign him. Which is stupid as it was just a third rounder.

Compare Darling to the disaster the combo of Lack, and Ward have been...and tell me why i should care how much Darling gets? With, the D the Canes have, and the number of games that were lost late in the game on soft goals... the future looks more than a little bright.

Agreed if I was a fan (I do like them) I'd be happy! ,it seems a little more(cash) than one would expect from limited games played?but it's in line for what a starter makes, and that's what he will become now, the net is his to lose! most of Chicago fans liked his play and attitude! And this is where scouting becomes crucial! Hopefully all works out well
