Great article Pach. You and I come from the same background and I think age. I agree with every word you wrote.

Pegula is obviously a brilliant businessman. I think he thinks that he can transfer his oil expertise into the field of professional sports management. Wrong. Hire a couple of pros, let them do their stuff and just get out of the way.

I can't believe they don't want to pay Watkins 13.3 million to call in sick for the 16 days worth of work he does per year.

But they can still work out a deal to extend, right?
Or even franchise him if it comes down to it
Wouldn't make sense just to let him walk

Great blog. Gut check time for sure. I think you hit the nail on the head with the mistake it will be having the owners sh involved in management selections.

Your talk about a Country Club reminds me of my local team ..... the SJ Sharks. They represent the epitome of a Country Club environment but are still able to get results on the ice. They've also been trying for years to get Thorton and Marleau to renegotiate their contracts which would have given SJ more flexability to move them ................ to no avail. Different markets .......... different attitudes. Seems to work out here just fine. Buffalo as I've stated it too many times .............. is a pressure-cooker that very few athletes can thrive in.

I agree. Definitely a good read. They need to get these hires right and get these teams on the right path. IMO they need to have someone above both GMs in both organizations that has won and knows how to build a winner and hire the right people to be GM.

If they franchise him it would cost 15 million if they would have picked up the option it would have been 13 million I believe I'm not sure
