The fact that John Tavares requested Bailey to play alongside him on the first wing speaks to what kind of player Bailey is. - Noel Fogelman
Not necessarily. It could also be an indictment on Snow because there were no better options. I don't think Bailey should be on the first line. In fact I hope they trade him this summer, but I am certain Snow will extend him. |

For me I need to see Bailey do this 2 years in a row. When we played Pens in playoffs a few years ago i liked the idea of Bailey with JT, but they went away from that in the 2 years afterwards. Bailey is simply frustrating. Until he can show productive consistency, then he will continue to be a whipping boy of the fans.
The talent is there, we have all seen it, but i don't think he has the oomph to bring that level year in year out for 82 games. |

I think a B plus would be fair Noel. Bailey did have a good year, but is still lacking in effort and disappears when really needed. - ses111
I think it unfair to question a player's effort. Just because a player does not show emotion does not mean he is not trying

"...Can someone be considered a bust when they have played the 10th-most games in franchise history?"
When those games were played in an era where the team had 3 playoff appearances and 1 playoff series victory, and the GM has been Garth Snow, the answer is an unequivocal "Yes!" Now I'm not saying that Bailey is a bust, just that your argument is weak. Bailey was adequate on the first line, occasionally making some nice passes that JT finished beautifully. I would be generous in giving him a B, overlooking his general lack of willingness to play physically, no matter the situation.
Zach's review was probably more accurate.... |

It's not a lack of emotion Noel. It's letting players skate right past you and avoiding contact at all costs and not working hard on defense. |

It is hard to argue with Zach. I'm going to have to see a lot more from Bailey. It was never a lack of talent with Bailey. |

Effort and showing of emotion are 2 totally separate things. I don't care if he shows emotion or not. The EFFORT isn't there most of the time. I've watched countless times in the defensive zone where he is just standing there, stick in both hands, not making any effort to break up a pass or make them change the passing angle. Your son's assessment is spot on. |

Yep! Bailey can have any look on his face and be calm and cool, but when he plays the game like he's afraid to get hit and looks around in the D zone and does nothing it's a big problem. |

I'm not taking anything away from the year that he had. He just doesn't put in any effort in the D-zone, or I should say very little. He will get back and play D when he gives up the puck at the O-zone blue line. |

Trust me he is not trying. He is a lazy player most of the time and is afraid to get hit . Does not go into the dirty areas much and just seems to be the type of baby player the Islanders like to coddle. Any other team he is either in the AHL or he is on the 3rd or 4th line maybe. Until he proves consistently he belongs in the NHL I give him a C+ for effort
Also I am sure that if the ISlanders went out and actually got a star wing for TAvares he is not going to beg that he keeps Bailey on his line. |

If Bailey was on the third line putting up 35-40 points, this would be a really good hockey team. It is not his fault where he plays or how much he plays. |

Seriously, Dan? That pretty much describes his career prior to this season, doesn't it? 35-40 points on the 2nd or 3rd line, usually about -5 or thereabouts, and the team has never been "really good." |

I have issues with JT in the D zone as well. He has not hustled back on more than a few occasions. |

No it's not. The only thing he can control is how much effort he puts into the game. Once again, he had a career year. I'm not taking that away from him. It's his lack of effort that bothers most everybody on here. Watching him stand around by the boards while offensive players skate around him is what the concern is. I've said a million times that I'd like to see what this team could do with a real coach. Bailey & Strome included. Bailey has some talent, I just want to see him put in the effort in the D-zone. Get a stick in the passing lane, alter their passing lane, attack the point man and pressure him, something. |
