Just curious..how do we know Kovy definitely wants to return that this isn't just a ploy to get more money in KHL?

I think Mikey McLeod has nothing else to prove with the steelheads after this step up in performance. He should get a good long look in camp to make the team...I think he can make the jump. As for Kovy, I say sign him and trade him. If a trade is impossible then I wouldn't mind seeing him on a short term contract 2 years max... Good luck to the NJ in our Lottery draft

My opinion is one more year in the O for McLeod... Look at Marner this year, everyone thought he was ready for the Leafs last season but Lou sent him back. This years he stepped up big for the Leafs. I say Let McLeod try and Dominate the OHL next year, the Devils aren't winning anything next season so you might as well let McLeod raise his confidence to the max before having him play with the Devils.

As for Kovy, I'd like so see him play for the devils, but I think a sign and trade is best for the team. Even if its a one year contract and move him at the deadline to a contender.

I just don't see us getting a 1st or high end prospect/good young player like some believe we could for him in a trade...hope I'm wrong though

The only plausible thing I see happening is that New Jersey sets a price for Kovalchuk. Meaning that Kovi would have the ability to get the best deal possible. Once he gets his deal. New Jersey would sign him to that contract and trade him to that team. The teams negotiating with the Devils would already know what they would have to give up in order to get him.

I'd say 17 years - $102,000,000 is reasonable.

I've seen him play about 6 times live this year and while the improvement has been impressive I think he could use another year in junior. That being said he was dominate in the first game of the Peterborough series. You guys got a good one.

See what you can get from the Islanders too, if Kovi were willing to go of course.

Yes the Islanders make sense but its gonna cost them in division - a first and Barzal. Kovy will be done by the time the Devils are competing for Stanley cups again. Kovy will help them sign Taveras....

Id actually welcome him back (as hard as that was for me to admit) because we get a sniper for nothing and it could help lure Shatty, Alzner to sign in NJ. That will beef up our D corps and get involved in a trade before the expansion draft to pick up Fowler, Lindholm, Brodin or etc would really give us one of the best D Corp in the league.

Just a dream scenario.

The Rags traded a first, a second and Callahan for a 38 year old Martin St. Louis when St. Louis said NY was the only place he'd go to. Conversely it doesn't seem like anyone wanted to step up and put up a decent trade for 31 year old Rick Nash in the offseason when the Blueskirts were shopping him.

It's pretty much guesswork how Kovy would shake out as a trade under his unusual circumstances...

That's because Steve Yzerman is a wizard.
1. That trade. And remember St. Louis said he'd only go to the Rangers and that was widely known beforehand. Yet Yzerman still got a great return some how.
2. Outwaiting the Drouin thing when everyone thought he'd have to be traded for less than market value
3. Signs Stamkos one day before he could become an UFA for about 2 mill less than he would've gotten on the open market
4. Kucherov signed for less money than what Kyle Palmieri got (and Palmieri isn't overpaid).
5. Trading for a player named Greg McKegg.

The man is a genius.

I have no clue what Kovy's return would be, but it'd be pretty hilarious (and awesome for NJ) if Montreal traded us Galchenyuk for him.

It should be super unrealistic, but Montreal had Galchenyuk on the 4th line to start a playoff series, so who knows what they're thinking up there.

Marner only played one year in juniors post-draft though. He went 2 picks ahead of Zacha.

This is one that's really hard to project because he doesn't have Zacha's frame, but he's also one of the best skaters in juniors and we're seeing a lot of smaller, fast guys be successful and 6'2" isn't small. If you look at what he's done since the world junior's ended, it's hard to say he hasn't been dominant. I think he has a good shot to make the team next season. I think he'll at least get his 9 games.

I agree that it wouldn't be an ideal situation for him to walk into the way the team is constructed now, but I think Shero will make some moves to improve the defense, which should do wonders for everyone. I don't see them making the playoffs next year regardless (especially since I don't think Hynes is a good coach), but if Shero does his job, they should at least not be a complete disaster again.

Why don't we give Mcleod a year in the AHL next season?

As for Kovy, he's going to fetch us something real good in return. We should trade Cory while we're at it too, get a couple firsts and/or high end prospects. These are two game changers we're talking about. They are not common players and their price shouldn't come as such.

NHL Network Radio had Steelheads head coach on and he talked about how McLeod took his game up a level every game in the playoffs. Then the coach talked about Owen Tippet being a horse
