The automatic penalty for shooting the puck over the glass was brought on by the players. Every team when they had pressure from the other team would just shoot the puck out over the glass which caused a whistle. It was a great way to relieve the pressure.

it also delayed the game, not to mention a ton of pucks lost lol. If they could somehow change it that if it is done accidentally there would be no penalty, but how the heck to you decide that?

Paul, off topic but I wanted to know your opinion on this, (not saying you) but do you feel sometimes fans can contribute to an official making a call? Especially in cities like Montreal where the fans really jump on every call or non call.
