You can use projections all you want. This organization is the worst in all of sports. They finally looking like they were on the up and leave it to them to go from 103 points to a non playoff team the next year. Nothing will ever be done correctly, this team needs new ownership, ppl that want to build a winner.

Who's going this summer? Do they dare to trade away Trocheck? Do they trade the top 10 pick and bring in more scoring? Or a shut down defender? How can we answer these questions?

From what history tells us about this poop show of a hockey team, we all know that the team will 1: draft a bust 2: make the roster weaker. 3: make a trade that has all of us panther fans who are stupid enough to stick around scratching our heads.

Oh I forgot to mention the instability. Who will be the next head coach? What's that? 16 head coaches since 93? Just that instability alone shows what a Mickey Mouse organization this is. I wonder what bum coach they talk up and tell all of us is the best big coach. Just like DeBore who has been nothing but consistent. But he's just one of many this organization has given up on way to early.

THIS is the biggest problem the team has. Forget the on-ice product for a moment. People sometimes forget that players like Bjugstad have seen 4 different head coaches in 5 years. That will DESTROY a players' ability to develop properly.

Bingo. Nailed that dead center. Constant chaos is not going to get you to the top of the league as a team. And after we finally get away from all that, when Tallon comes in, and also once again when he finds a good coach, we return to chaos, even more so than ever, with this ownership. My niece could have run this team better over the last year.

Hey, BallardHitsHard22

The Panthers iced a better roster this year than last year. Just couldn't stay healthy. Gudbranson and Kulikov are among the games worst Dmen, and you're getting crazy value for Demers and Yandle.

They also drafted an absolute gem in Borgstrom, so that's gone too.

As for the trading, you got McCann (future top 9 forward) AND Pysyk (already better than Gudbranson and Kulikov, while being young enough to improve).

Florida is a lot closer to contention than they seem. Just need a coach that will play the speed and skill game, and some luck on the injury front.

So much wrong with this post.

Ok, the Panthers iced a better roster? Who says they are a better roster? That's just names on the back of a jersey. It's not about individual players, it's about how they perform as a team. And they were healthy for long stretches of this season and played like crap.
The roster as the way it's constructed is not that great. They went all in on offense, and if anyone is being honest, is this roster that great offensively on paper compared to other teams around the league. If you're going to go all in on one element, you better be head and shoulders above most teams in the league at that element, at least on paper. What they did made no sense. Say what you will about Gudbranson and Kulikov, but they fit a role on this team, and brought more of a versatility type element to this team. The way it's built, this team is soft as hell, and not lighting the world on fire offensively which is the single thing this roster is supposedly geared around.
They were not going to Globetrote the rest of the league with this roster, what were they trying to do? The only reason this team improved the way it did the last couple of seasons before this was because of defense. Demers is nothing special, he's just....there. Yandle brings some offense, but that isn't the bees knees, and he doesn't bring much of anything else. And Pysyk is decent, but is definitely not an upgrade on what Kulikov did for this team the last 2 seasons. And Pysyk is a bottom pairing defenseman just like Gudbranson, it was lateral move pretty much. I don't care what Kuli and Gudbranson did after they left the Panthers, it was what they were doing for this team while they were here, and where they and the team was heading in the following seasons, after they had been working hard to build up to that point the previous 5 seasons before that. Funny you throw in Pysyk's age, when Gudbranson and Kulikov is just as young, and were improving as they went along with this team. And McCann's getting a little overhyped, his top top 9 status is very questionable at this point, I'm personally not sure he will have a long term future in this organization.
And you say they should play a speed and skill a game? No, that's stupid. Barkov, Ekblad, Huberdeau,...why would anyone single out speed to try to make that the style of play for this team? Like this team is going to be better than most teams at playing the speed and skill game? The slow it down and skill game is the type of game they should be playing, EMPHASIS ON DEFENSE.
Again, most important thing for this roster, is defense first style of game.
I agree though, Florida can become a contender, but they need non idiots in the front office, and even still, after the damage they did this last offseason, it's going to be tough. Finding the right coach is very very hard. It took the Panthers 20+ years to find the right coach for this team (and then they fired him of course), now they are supposed to find the right coach in one offseason? Possible, but not likely.

Not both. Too much age. At some point you have to start infusing kids like Hawrlyuk, Borgstrom, Mascherin, etc.. into the lineup. If I could choose one, however, I say Kovalchuk. Simply because he's younger and I personally feel he would do more on Barkov's win than Jagr, who just looked slow to me.

Agree. You do realize the kids you mentioned are all offensive minded and when you sign basically all your offensive minded forwards to 5 year contracts guess what happens? Kids to the 3rd/4th line like a Malgin

It's definitely a balancing act. But it's alright if someone like Malgin is on the 3rd line so long as he isn't flanked by Paul freakin' Thompson. That's the major part of the problem the roster has right now, there's no balance. And there won't be balance unless they dedicate top 6 minutes to Bjugstad, move Jokinen AND Smith to the 3rd line (Smith-Malgin-Jokinen is a pretty good 3rd line, yeah?), move Marchessault to the 2nd line, and compliment the 4th line with guys like Hawrlyuk. Once Jokinen is gone and we toss MacKenzie to the curb, you have spots for Mascherin, Borgstrom, etc. You also cannot over-extend Jagr. What he's done here is amazing, but this team has to start looking beyond him. You wanna bring Kovalchuk here for a couple of years, fine, but do NOT make it a detriment to the younger players in the system.

Glad we agree!
