Curious where the Maroon / McDavid / Draisaitl line ranks... This is why advanced stats are useless. |

lol seems a lot of them are used to defend players who don't otherwise get results.

Yes, outscoring your opponent is useless.
They are +1.0 per 60, by the way. So a hair outside making it. |

Washington's 4th line is probably what's going to cause people who don't like advanced stats to write that list off. |

Hall line: +9 goal differential in 389 minutes (+1.4 goals/60)
McDavid line: +9 goal differential in 520 minutes (+1.0 goals/60).
Does that help? There is nothing advanced about this. |

Yeah, I get that. Obviously, they are not as good as other lines mentioned. They just play softer comp and have succeeded as a result. |

The goal differential is the result...The objective is to outscore your opponent and these lines have done that. |

What is "advanced" about on ice goal stats? I thought these were the basics. |

Was not referring to on ice goal stats; I've used them in an article defending Larsson before when explaining the Hall Larsson trade.
The SOG ones are the ones I pick at. I really like on ice goal stats. If you go to stats.hockeyanalysis.com, one of my favourite columns if GF%. |

Todd, looking through some draft options in the 2nd or 3rd round. What can you tell me about Alexander Sasha Chmelevski? Looks like he has a nose for the net and played well in the Showcase game. I know he is a US born player but his tape is limited.
Also, what teams that are up against the cap & have RFA's to sign can we squeeze for a draft pick. Ex. Take on Callahan's contract for Tampa's 1st round pick. No way they sign all 3 RFA's without reducing cap space. |

Wouldn't we not be able get that much because Callahan is still available to play? |

Callahan's contract is for 3 more years at 5.8m so they need to do something with it.
Tyler Johnson was making 3.3m per and now is due for a raise, Ondrej Palat same thing and then they have to sign Drouin. You know none of these guys are taking a home town discount. ALL RFA's. Drouin is coming off a rookie contract. So add those salaries up and they have an issue. The Devils are in a position of strength where the player is serviceable, the cap space is available & they can provide the cap relief Tampa needs. even if it was Callahan & their 1st for a few mid round picks it would make sense. |

Based off of what? Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, and Callahan all signed for less on the market. TB has plenty of cap space to sign all three.
As of right now, next year they got 18 million in cap. Johnson and Palat can get between 4.5-6mil. Both of their productions went up and down throughout their three 3 contracts. And Drouin will probably get the same contract as Johnson and Palat, 3 yrs 3.3mil, I base this off Johnson and Palat's first years where they produced just like Drouin has. And with the emergence of Point they could trade Johnson and get a 1st in return in stead of giving up theirs.
Also, why give up a 1st when they could easily trade TOR's 2nd to Vegas for taking Garrison's 1 yr left? |
