It sounded like Hextall was definitely going to sign another veteran goalie, possibly even Mason, but only after the ED.

I don't get the Mullen firing. Yeah, the PP is predictable but just look where Simmonds and Schenn finished the season in PP goal totals. And your two PP QBs in G and Ghost were playing injured most of the year as well.

Keeping Lappy on the PK is inexcusable in my opinion. Then again it seems like he's going to have a few new pieces to work with next year so I hope it works out with new personal. But I'm also hoping that the leash is short with him.

Bill, re the coaches:
Do you think the plan might be to hire a new assistant to oversee ALL the special teams and let Lappy take over overseeing the forwards? That is the only way I can see this move making sense.

If a deal isn't in place for Vegas to take Neuvy, my guess is that they sign a vet like Miller to a 1 or 2 year deal. If Neuvy does go to Vegas, I can see them going after Bishop on a big money 3 year deal and letting Stolie & Lyon duke it out for the backup spot

Miller would make the most sense to me, Hextall isn't looking for a long term deal like Bishop would be commanding. I would prefer Bernier or Bishop though.

I wonder if Sandstrom decides he wants to come over puts one of Stolarz or lyon on the block?

There seems to be a couple options that could come into play.

You should apply now that there is a assistant coaching vacancy. Your duties here would suffer though.

It def isn't all coaching. The personnel sucks too.
Seems like every time VDV, Bellemare, and MacDonald were on the ice on the PK the puck ended up in the back of the net.

Lyon is a getting a huge chance to really make his mark with this Stolarz injury. It seemed like Stolarz would be the playoff starter based on their recent usage.

Hopefully they can wrap up the 2nd seed tomorrow, and then Friedman can finally get a game while Scott Gordon's ECHL project Lamarche gets a rest.

So Hextall had a "gut feeling" he had to make a change with the PP coach? I hope that is just a facade for the media, or I have greatly overestimated Hextall.

I thought we were getting a process-oriented GM that would bring a renaissance to the antiquated Flyers organization. We have gotten that in some aspects, but not others. Did he consult his gut in regards to the PK coach?

Again, I hope he is just playing dumb here.

How do you think Joe Mullen feels knowing the difference between him and a flyers job was a bad egg salad sandwich?

Sometimes you think about doing something but the feeling in your gut is what helps you make the final choice to go through with it is how I'd take that Hextall quote.

The funny thing about the personnel argument is that half the main guys from the last time the PK was good are still here - Couturier, Read and Raffl. But the PK coach decided to reduce their SH minutes (to almost zero in the case of Raffl) in favor of playing VdV and PEB as much as possible.

Kimmo was definitely a big loss, but Coburn, Grossmann and LSchenn were all still here playing major minutes on the disastrous 14-15 PK.

Same. I hate how they do that diamond style switch at the points on the PK.
