Lost all respect for Doughty last night, he should have went toe to toe with the rookie himself. Yet he lets his boyfriends do the work while he watches from a far. Then to me it looked like he turtled a bit on the open ice hit Tkachuk was about to unleash on him.

Gotta give props to the rookie who didn't let down and kept targeting him.

Several players targeting Tkachuk after he attempted, missed, and took the worst of a clean hit attempt on Drew Doughty in open ice is dumb, too. Is he supposed to completely avoid a defenseman who played almost 26 minutes? I don't get it.

No, but going full on Superman a la Steve Downie on Dean McAmmond wasn't the best idea either. Stay on your skates, lower your shoulder, and lay a hard hit on Doughty is fine. Jumping off you skates to try to decapitate a player is a different matter entirely.

Edit: For the people who wanted Doughty to fight Tkachuk, if Calgary wanted revenge for people slashing Johnny's wrists, would you want Gaudreau to do it or someone like Engelland?

He's built like a child playing a mans game, doughty and Tkachuk are about even size and Doughty runs his mouth every game yet never backs it up. Gaudreau's game is speed and skill not running his mouth.

No poop, want to talk dirty ? How about targeting Gaudreau's hands all night with the slashes ? LA used Tkachuck to get fired up.

When Iggy fought Engelland and won IMO, that was the game. Everyone on that bench had to be thinking they had to win for that balsy effort against a tough guy like Engelland. Iggy turned to clock back about 15 years last night.

In the end, the Kings taught Calgary a lesson last night and looked like they can still be a dominant team. If only they could play that way every night...but they can't and neither can Iggy.

You can give it whatever name you like, but realistically that is what any player on any team should be doing when they're in a vulnerable position. Doughty could have become a deer in the headlights but that would only have ended with him being thrown to the ice.

I don't think this has anything to do with any pre-existing enmity between the players. Anyone who sees a hit coming up should try and avoid it. It's a pretty common play in hockey.

Yes, I have no idea about hockey and have never played it at any level. You're completely right, you got me.

Maybe Doughty doesn't turtle is Tkachuk doesn't prepare to take a flying leap at him. Nah, it must be that Doughty's a dirty player and intended to break the kid's legs. That's gotta be it. Doughty should have been a man and let Tkachuk destroy him.

And why does size matter? If you want a guy to "man up" and "fight his own battles" it shouldn't matter what size you are. Is Iginla anywhere near Engelland's size? Why didn't McDavid fight Brandon Manning since they're the same size? I'm guessing Doughty didn't want to fight because he's more valuable playing than getting tossed from the game like Andreoff was.

If you want to say Doughty runs his mouth "every game" then I can't agree or disagree, I don't check the news for Drew Doughty after every Kings' game.

You can wear the red and yellow glasses all you want, but it was a Richard move by Tkachuk. Not saying he's inherently dirty, but it was a stupid play.

I'll admit I don't watch a ton of Kings' games since I'm on the East Coast (live like 5 minutes from where Gaudreau grew up), so I can't say how he conducts himself on the ice. Regardless, when you get suspended for elbowing a player, it's probably not the smartest thing to do airborn on a hit on the same player the next time you play him. If being whiney was grounds for being run, Sidney Crosby, whose own teammate called him a baby, wouldn't have made it to his 20th birthday.

As for Gaudreau, it was ridiculous how many of those slashes went uncalled.

Yes, I saw him whimpering in the corner. Can't believe a guy with 1 career fight didn't think it was a good idea to be taken off the ice for 5 or more minutes to fight a rookie.

And yes, again, you got me. I've never played hockey at any competitive level, just in a league with USHL, ECHL, and NHL camp invitees in it (where, admittedly, I was overmatched).

You damn well know that if Johnny Hockey gets elbowed in the mouth by Clifford, he isn't going to be the one dropping the gloves, its going to be Engelland or Ferland doing it. Its funny reading comments because first it was calling out the Kings players for not stepping up for Doughty, then when they do Doughty is the puss and the Kings are ridiculous? Where is Doughty "sliding into his legs" before Tkachuk jumps? Doughty is still on his way down to the ice and Tkachuk is a good 6 inches off the ice. But yes, it's all on Doughty.

Again, I like Tkachuk and I like the Flames. But this was a dirty hit attempt. If you disagree, then fine, but I'm done arguing it.

He might as well have whimpered in the corner. He cried to the ref when Tkachuk tapped him on the leg to fight, and was rag dolled around the ice by the youngest player in the nhl. It would have been the easiest fight of his career. Instead he's the joke of the league.

He tried to go at Muzzin, lmfao, then he went with McNabb who he wrestled to the ground as fast as possible then tries again to take a huge hit on Doughty then turtles like a coward when Andreoff goes at him. People calling Doughty a puss for not taking the hit must be stupid, because I was taught to try and avoid big hits especially in open ice when I was in Peewee Hockey.

Those are the type of games you want to watch. Intensity from the beginning was awesome.

Not sure who your coach was but maybe they taught you wrong. You can try and avoid hits all day, but how you receive them is what he/she SHOULD have taught you.
