Peter Tessier: Blame Game, it's all Jets fan have left After another disappointing loss when the team could go above .500 in their record they drop an egg in LA.

I am holding on to the expectation of this team being in the playoffs next year and winning a couple rounds in two years. I see a young exciting core of star players that we have not had here ever. Selanne Tkachuk and Zhamnov were great but I think we have more here now with Scheifele Laine Ehlers Morrisey and Trouba (Connor and Roslivic). Key injuries and youth and inexperience in the net killed this season. This is not the end of the world. We get another year to load up in the draft and we saw this young core grow and emerge into stardom. Lets watch the summer unfold and see who is in goal and who is behind the bench to start next year.

Nice effort by Buff on the 3rd LA goal......
If we would waive his no-trade clause - I would love to see him go to Philly for a couple of their young Left shooting dmen (Sanheim & Morin ?)
Forget about blaming it on the amount of time he is on the ice.
Suter, Karlsson, Doughty, Keith, Weber....all play similar minutes to what Buff plays.

I think a big problem with Helly is he has no fight. Most goalies will claim their space, they will slash and hit players standing on top of them. Helly does nothing, he doesn't even seem to try very hard to find the puck at times and look around players in the crease. Sadly this is something I'm not sure can be taught. He may just be a sound foundamental goalie who has relied on his size but will never get to the level we need him to here. I still have faith in Comrie and we absolutely need a more proven goalie next year but not at the price lawless thinks we should spend.

After 74 games....
We still have no goaltending.
We still can't kill penalties.
Nobody other than Little can win a faceoff.
The 4th line can still not get the puck out of our end.
We take too many penalties.

I am a bit afraid that this mediocrity will continue, the coach and the GM will get new contracts as apparently there are no other coaches or GM's that would ever want to come to Winnipeg, and we will continue as mediocre, 500 team, with a 500 coach, and a GM scared of his shadow. Draft and develop, that is the mantra and Chevy is a master at drafting!! Really? Look, there is this wonderful draft projection list that even you and I can look at and see the projected draft that will happen for 2017, as it has since 2011 and before. OK, so Trouba was projected for #9, Chevy selected him at 9, he is a bleepin draft genius!! Laine, projected at # 2, Chevy chose him at #2, wow, Chevy continues to demonstrate his drafting superiority. Scheifele projected at #7, selected #7, again, draft genius. Come on, I think if you go by the draft projections, and interview the kids, even I could call out the names. And, btw, even Chevy himself said unless you know something that everyone else doesn't, (which is never the case) you go by the draft projections. So, please give me a break when you say Chevy has been a genius at drafting. BTW, Ben Bishop looked good last nite, looked like a # 1 goalie. I totally agree with Peter Tessiers assessment wholeheartedly, poor discipline, poor goaltending beyond belief for 6 years and counting, poor defence, and ownership that can't even consider any other coaches or GM as they are so loyal to their employees that they hire them for life.

Ross makes a good point about Helly. He seems to be stuck on this idea that big boring positional goaltending is the style that works for himself. He needs to be much much more aggressive in that crease. Just look at how many goals other teams score from defections and rebounds in our crease. Its not only our goalie but the dmen could be more helpful in that category as well.

The Jets seem to be one, if not the best team in the league at cycling the puck. Absolute experts at it. However this form of puck control is extremely tiring and subject to injuries. I think the Jets are now the most injured team in the league. Maurice or our next coach needs to change the system to one which involves less cycling into a system like the Hawks and Wild which creates more scoring opportunities .

BTW. Schief was not ranked 7th.......he was more like 28th.

OK, I stand corrected that Scheif was not projected at 7, he was anywhere from 13 to 18 and final projection at 16. So, we got Scheif who is a "quality individual" as well as being a "quality player".

I gave Chevy the benefit of the doubt for 6 years, so now I am asking for a bit more than average. Now that Wpg is back in the league, and I have been so happy that Wpg has a NHL team, I didn't question anything or anyone, until this year. I was just plain happy, just happy to be here. Now, its time to try and complement these talented forwards with a better blueline and crease.

Here's a thought for discussion. Dale Hawerchuck signed a three year deal with the Colts, this is the first year of that contract. I can't help but think that Ducky is destined to coach the Jets at some point in time, his connections, his mentoring of players such as Mark Scheifele when he was a player there. He seems to be always venturing to the Peg, just wondering what others think??

I couldn't believe how he just buried his face in Carter's back on the Muzzin goal and didn't even try to fight for space. Quick definitely has his own set of faults, but being so used to him fighting for every inch of space in his crease seeing Helly being so complacent was surprising to see.

I don't think the comparison between Winnipeg and Toronto is as simple as Pete seems to make it. Toronto has an endless supply of money, they went out and bought the best coach in the game, they can trade for players with a 5 Million salary who will never play in the NHL again, they have a larger draw for free agents, etc. The model is completely different.

I can't picture a scenario where Winnipeg makes a trade for a dead contract because we have salary space...market size will not allow it.

I'm of the thinking that the next season is do or die for both coach and GM. Chevy has to basically give Pomo a team where we, the media and fans, cannot have the excuse of he didn't have the tools to win. A health D with some depth, someone who can challenge Helle (Hello Darling), and a decent 4th line. No extension unless we make the playoffs.

Pete was right when he said any goalie last night would not have made a difference, but the game was played with us only having 2 NHL D-men dressed. Not too many coaches can do much when you're on your 11th and 12th depth Dmen.

I think it's true...I believe Hawerchuck is destined to coach the Jets...but a lot has to happen in Winnipeg (if he is going to have an opportunity to be a success) if he is to stay with the Colts for 3 more years.

By then Buff will be useless...Wheels and Little will be on their last legs and goaltending...well something has to be done...and soon...or they'll lose their hardcore fan base.

One last thing...if Chevy is truly a genius at drafting...where are all our 3rd and 4th rounders developing???

Every other GM around the league gets the credit for the drafting of their team's players so why can't Chevy? I don't think he is a genius, but he is far from terrible with regard to the drafting by the Jets.

Trades? Who is doing trades? What trade offers has he passed up?

Free agents? Winnipeg is likely the last place players will select.

Waiver wire acquisitions? Many players waived by all teams, not just the Jets.

Earlier this year someone broke down the schedule of the Jets and the Leafs. It was surprising how the Leafs schedule was more favourable.

Additional advantages this year for TO: zero significant injuries, an NHL goalie and a proven coach.

Chevy's Winnipeg career will be decided this summer and next year.

It's difficult to support PoMo. The team style, record, and special teams do not support a re hiring.

2011 3rd round Adam Lowry is a Jet

2012 3rd round Scot Kosmachuk Moose
4th round no pick.
5th round Connor Helebuyck Jets

2013 3rd round Jimmy Lodge and JC Lipon Moose
4th round Andrew Copp Jets and Jan Kostalek Moose
5th round Tucker Poolman UND and NCHA defensive defenceman of the year and projected Jet

2014 most of these guys are in College but 4th rounder Chase De leo is with the Moose

Chevy has found at least one Jet each year after the second round. That in NHL terms is very good drafting.
The Hockey News has rated the Jets as having the best 21 and under players/prospects in the League.
Fault Chevy for not getting a Goalie and another LD but you can't be faulting him for not drafting well. This team is a small market draft and build team and the process is a long one. The good news is we are very close to having a great team.

Have the jets reached out to Poolman yet?
