Agree on Andersson, would like to see him in a couple of games. As much as I like Engelland, the Flames need a cheaper/younger option on the 3rd pairing going forward.

Is it too wishful to hope for a Kulak/Wotherspoon - Andersson line?

I don't know about you guys but I'm excited to see what these guys can do in the playoffs. With this end of season run it could be this underdog team taking the cup this year.

Bring Back Russell???????

You need to maybe take a Zen course to try & help with those self destruct thoughts.
No thanks, let someone else pay him 4.0mill per year. Hopefully the Oilers.

Yet you take no issue with re-signing Wideman.

If Engelland is not resigned, who would ideally be in that 3rd pairing next year? FatRass and?

I'd like to see them take a run ad Karl Alzner ahead of re-signing Stone. Then depending on the cap situation could possibly sign Stone too. Then Stone, Rass, Bart make of 5 thru 7

Little worried that Alzner is out of our price range... Would love to have him, but suspect he will not fit into our cap over the next few years with Backlund/Bennett, need for a new goalie etc. Also, I suspect he is looking for top 2-3 minutes, so it's going to create an interesting pairing situation, as Gully seems to want to run the R-L pairings. By default, Alzner moves to the 3rd pairing in that case, and I would think he's looking for more minutes than that.

Maybe. But what do you think Alzner is looking for in Money? 5 mil?

If you consider that Bennett will probably get more of a bridge contract (for the sake of it say 2.5 for 2 years.) I still believe that Bennett will work out, but he hasn't earned more yet. Consider that somebody will be coming off the books in the expansion draft. Stajan and Bomua come off the books after next season (5.325 mil) before they have to re-sign Backlund.

As for the whole left / right d-man thing. Every coach would love that, but if you can get skilled players that don't always match the hand they shoot then every coach will take that. Brodie's best years have been playing on his off side with Giordano. Brodie has even said he actually prefers to play the off side. So match Alzner with Brodie as the 3-4. Gives Alzner higher minutes, give the flames a much needed high end Shut down type d-man. And it allows Brodie to take more chances and have confidence that his partner can handle things (hence his troubles this year not being able to play his style of came and cover for Wideman too).

Fair, don't disagree, I'm just seeing the coaches philosophy seems to be to go R-L.

On the cap:

Renewals after this year (likely to be re-signed)
- Ferland - total "?" after a largely up and down season.
- Stone - not likely to get $4M again in this contract, I think this ends up being a prove it contract
- Need 2 goalies for next year

Renewals after 2017-2018 season include:
- Backlund - easily argue he has been underpaid the last 2 years
- Bennett - Bridge deal looks likely as of today, but if he takes a big step forward next year, look out.

Also need to sock away some dollars for Tkachuk when he's up. At least by then, if Brouwer is still around, he has 1 year left on his deal and is more tradeable.

I just think after heavy investments in Frolik and Brouwer, and potentially big deals coming up in net, as well as with Backs/Bennett etc, there may not be as much to go around as we think.

Alzner is getting at least Yandle money. Looking at 6.5-7x6.

Watch Shattenkirk drive that price tag even higher if he signs first.
