Peter Tessier: Jets-Flyers recap: Snooze fest until.... The Jets won 3-2 to pull back to .500 on the season but that did nothing to help with the snooze fest of a game last night.

its beyond my understanding why Maurice isn't playing Laine on the top line. He hasn't been a factor in the past few games, you'd think Maurice would make the change so this kid can put points on the board. On a positive note, awesome to see Schief in the top 6 in scoring. 4 jets are currently in the top 30 for points, who knows where it will end up at the end of the year but we have the talent up front, its time to get some solid back stopping and put a good top 4 d together (we have the pieces)

Laine isn't with Scheifele on the top line for 2 reasons:
1: they don't work very well together. Both Laine and Scheifele see a drop in production and puck possession when they're together.
2: Laine, until very recently, didn't contribute much when he wasn't scoring. As in he's been carried by Little, Perreault, or Ehlers as he's been rounding out his game away from the puck. He was a puck possession anchor for the first half of the season in comparison to his usual linemates.

Not doubting you but can you show this? I thought I read somewhere Sheifele, ehlers and laine all had the their highest ppg average when playing together than while playing with anyone else?

Ross, I think you're right about when all 3 are together, but (nonEhlers)- Scheifele-Laine hasn't worked. I'll dig up the whatever it was that I was reading. I should definitely note that Laine has drastically improved his overall game since the article was written.

This is the first time that Laine has ever played this many games in a season. He looks tired and often disinterested. He is young, so we look forward to bigger and better things for next season.
Wheeler has been outplaying him by quite a bit lately, so Wheels is getting the prime PP time and deservedly so.
Laine is having a helluva time getting the puck out of his own end and also has issues in getting the puck deep into the opposing end.
An off-season of power skating would be a good thing.
