I shudder to think what detroit will do with a top 10 pick. They have done so well for the past quarter-decade with mid round and late round draft picks that the thought of them getting someone like Patrick, or Liljgren is pretty scary.

Saw the game at the same time as the Senators one. Hope we will face each other in the first round, think it could be a fun one

If Holland & Blashill still hold a role with the team, expect them to basically throw away any realistic chance at making a good move with that top 10 pick. Both can not go away from this franchise, fast enough.

Wings scouting staff is still good though. You would hope that they would have a lot of say at the draft being that this year they will draft higher than they have in 25 years. They still know how to carve diamonds from stone in the late rounds too. I wouldnt count them out just yet.

Down years are interesting. Outside of the top maybe 5, the names are pretty interchangeable. Its years like this were deep round drafting is incredibly important because you could end up with all duds. You never know though. I think you will see less players from this draft step right in and play.


I will say this, if you research the ISS top 31, and look up some highilights on youtube for some of those players, you will change your mind about there not being any studs. There will be a lot of NHL players coming out of the first round of this years draft, just not as many will make the leap the 1st year.

Give it time. Its not like the wings are going to immediately be the oilers of the past decade. I would say it will be a much quicker turn around for the wings. 2, maybe 3 years out of the playoffs, then a perennial threat again.

Mantha was a no brainer in 2013. All the rest don't exactly have a case for them, other than potential, so nothing is evident for them in the NHL as of yet.

Mantha was not a "no-brainer". Most teams didn't project him as a first-rounder and 12 other teams outside the Top-5 passed on him.

For you and Holland, maybe, but not for most teams at the time apparently.

I wasn't sold on him until he made the team this year. He was a chip I was all-in for trading to get some D help, but now he's near the top of the no-trade list.
