Bob Duff: Victims of a Boston Massacre Throttled 6-1 by the Bruins, the effort of the Detroit Red Wings simply wasn't good enough.

Blashill is excited to report that Jimmy Howard is returning from his conditioning stint in Grand Rapids. Unfortunately for Blashill, Terry Sawchuk in his prime wouldn't save his sorry ass and his job at this point. Blashill is not a NHL Coach. Never was.

Time to take off your suit, put on a pretty " TANK " top and wait for the
Guillotine to fall.

Bring on the June Draft.

I don't know which is worse. Watching the pathetic display of hockey by the Red Wings or listening to idiot Blashill act like a wannabe know it all for the millionth time in his post game comments. I'm all for losing for the tank but at least play with some dignity.

I think the game was closer than the score indicated. From watching, I would have thought it was only 5-1, not the 6-1 the scoreboard showed

That had to be pretty painful to be a Wings fan. Nothing to like about that game for you guys.

What a strange year it's been for you guys.

On the bright side, you have one of the better scouting departments and a lot of picks this year. Including a high pick in the first!

It's weird seeing a wings team play this poorly. I've never seen it this bad

legit the worst wings team in history, Holland is to blame, he's done nothing if you ask me.

Not so much, we expect it at this point. I know I for one want the tanking to continue for a higher draft pick, just as long as Holland & Blashill aren't around anymore come Draft time, so we can finally have some competency steering things in the right direction, again.

They used to have one of the better scouting departments. Not anymore they don't. It's the main reason why they have a lack of talent now. Couple that with the lazy GM and clueless coach and it's a perfect storm of failure.

Pretty much sums it up. And our best Scout left with Jim Nill to Dallas, sadly.

Luckily our core Is signed to expensive long term contracts so they aren't going anywhere. We can expect this level of success in the future

It'll be interesting to see how we would/will be with a new GM and coach. Both, at least, mostly competent ones. I think we need to go Toronto. Trade off players like Nyquist and Tatar and and unload some contracts and focus on cheap veterans and ELC youth.

This has been a mess of a season. Datsyuk leaves, Mr. I passes, Wings have the most man games lost due to injury this year, Howard who looked like he was getting the crease back... gets hurt most of the year, its just a mess.

However,
the Wings have been slowly declining for years so it is not surprising that they will miss the playoffs. Holland's messages slowly stated this over the past few seasons as this were kicking off in October.

Despite the lengthy playoff stretch... most teams have gone through this cycle, so im not sure why anyone on here is surprised. Pittsburgh were unreal in the early 90s only to be a consistent #1 pick team, NJD are just as much as a mess as us, COL ... yikes, and even though Dal has two elite talents... they really are not great either.

If you been around as long as I have, NJD/COL/DAL/DET were in a league of their own during the late 90s early 2000s and basically one of those teams won the cup from 96' to 2003'... and are all bottom feeders now.

why?

because when you cannot get elite talent you fade... and the draft was not then what it is now. Now there are much more higher percentages of impact players higher up in the draft now vs before.

regardless of that, we were due -- so now it is about moving Blashill to assistant, getting Kenny to step aside or force him to unload and re-build through the draft.

I believe that this draft is the start of our new core -- we have a ways to go to get this ship going in the right direction.

buckle up.

I think Holland is waiting until the regular season is over to fire Blashill. Unfortunately, I think we're stuck with Holland for next season when his contract runs out. My biggest fear is Kris Draper or Ryan Martin being named his replacement. Neither one deserves it. This team must be torn apart piece by piece. It will take time. Hopefully Kronwall and Ericsson can be LTIRetired. We're likely stuck with Howard for 2 more years. Hopefully Helm gets taken in the Expansion draft. We're stuck with the bad long term contracts of Nielsen, Abdelkader and Dekeyser.

At least we can see what Bertuzzi and Nosek can do next season. I think hiring Gallant would be a good move. This team isn't as bad as they are under Blashill. Gallant would get more out of them. I'd like to see a top defenseman drafted with the lottery pick. One we don't have to wait 4 years like Cholowski. It's clear Mrazek isn't the star like most of us thought he'd be. I'd trade him for the right player but his trade value is low right now that he isn't worth trading.

I can handle losing and not making the playoffs so long as there is a long term plan in place and we show improvement. Right now this team has no direction and is just spinning its wheels.

Who is surprised? This team has been declining since 2009. Especially the past 3 years. This team is being exposed for what it really is. Babcock used smoke and mirrors to make them look better than they really were. The tear down should've began years ago. Holland made it worse by locking up average players to expensive long term contracts. It's a complete mess. It's the same situation Hextall walked into taking over the Flyers. It can't be fixed overnight. The eventual new Wings GM certainly has his work cut out for him.

I don't know who would replace Ken Holland in organization honestly. I'm still pissed to this day that my hero got (frank)ed over because Holland didn't want to move up in the company.

Gallant would be a good add.

We need a a couple of high end defensemen to at least stabilize our blue line. Cholowski is a complete unknown and all our current players and prospects are second line at best. Should've eaten Datsyuk's contract and drafted Chychrun. I went on a drinking tear after that draft.

I'm ok with Nielsen, Abby, and DDK being our only questionable contracts. Helm could easily be traded. Kronwall may LTIRetire. Ericsson needs to come to a mutual termination of contract or however that works. But those other three actually contribute somewhat. You could mix Helm or Nielsen honestly, though. Easier to trade Helm.

I want to trade Nyquist and Tatar and either Mrazek or Howard. Both are decent goalies but we only need one for the contracts they'll get. Keep signing get back ups to cheap 1 year deals.

The biggest need we need to address though is the Detroit welfare alcohol system. Because we already have to deal with the Lions indefinitely, the Pistons and Tigers recently, and now the the Dead Wings 2.0. We should all get free six packs per game.

The difference is that while we were declining. We signed the right vets that Babs could utilize right. Bertuzzi was a great player for us. (frank) the logjam. When we lost Babs and kept signing poopty vets, we stopped being able to utilize them in semi successful ways, all of which were playing them with the Euro Twins. I honestly wish we hadn't kept eithe Filpulla or Hudler. Would've saved us face compared to Weiss, Richards and now Nielsen.
