First!

Edit: I mean second.

I was surprised by the final faceoff numbers. Seemed they were over 50% through the first half of the game or so. What happened?

Spot on JJ and I was wondering why Kruger was benched for a long stretch only o hear Q say in the post game hes fine. Krugs came out late in the third with Desi and Hartman for a shift so not sure if that was simply Q just flipping Kero and Krugs and playing three and change lines?

Totally agree about the need for another center who can win draws. Brian Boyle or Jay McClement would look good here.

Good move by Minni strengthening a position they already have good depth at - wondering if it was more of a preemptive move (as some mentioned) from keeping the Hawks from getting him.

Meanwhile with Hammer's injury - center depth and a dman remain the needs for this team before Wednesday's deadline. Boyle/Oduya? We'll see if Stan and company can get something done. Let's hope so.

Solid win last night - thought Darling in particular looked good. Hawks 1 point back but Minni with 3 in hand starting with the Kings tonight.

A bidding war? Minny got him for next to nothing. I commented in the last blog, this years 1st will be a high pick (20+). The next 2 years are a crapshoot. Arizona is a minor league organization, an absolute joke to have it in this league.

TVR needs to play better. He was horrible last night. Rosival (The human shopping cart) looked good compared to him. If Kempny played that way, he would find his way in the pressbox

Hopefully, I'm wrong, but I don't see Stan making a BIG SPLASH at the deadline. Overpaying or an aging veteran (with no wheels) isn't worth it.
I think most people want to see Schmaltz and Hartman stick around.

On the other hand, if Stan DOES make a deal...and if he has to OVER PAY, I think he should try to land a good defenseeman.

If Hjarmarrson's injury is more serious than we've been told, or if Seabrook or Keith get hurt in the playoffs, NOTHING good will happen seeing Rosival take regular shifts.

I was kind of surprised that Minni wasn't forced to give up any of their young talent of which they have a lot of and just picks...

Its because Hanzal sucks. Be glad the Hawks didn't get him.

Would much rather have Boyle, at least his 6'7 245lb body can stay healthy.

I'm not sure which D-man to go after if they were to look at acquiring one. Q has a tough system to get acclimated to, so unless they plan on getting a guy and making him play 22 straight games to try and get in the rhythm, doesn't make much sense. Unless Oduya's ankle was good to go and they could get him but even if healthy I don't know if he's got anything left in the tank anymore.

I was at the game last night too (sat 4 rows behind #88's parents). The lack of structure to their game - especially in P2 when STL woke up a bit - was pretty glaring. But putting 2 and 7 back together and. 57 back on the 3rd pairing seemed to help exponentially (man was he brutal up there with 2). LOVE #8 - my sister was floored by that whole line in person and kept asking how she missed Schmaltz earlier in the year. Don't know if it came across on tv, but a LOT of blues fans at the UC last night. Glad they got real quiet toward the end of the night.

Hope they are able to find the right piece here in the next few days. Should be interesting. Glad they didn't pay that price for Hanzel.

It's an overpay for Hanzal. The guy is decent but Minnie gave up at least twice as much as the Hawks gave up for Vermette or Ladd and they are far superior to him.

Hanzal would have a nice add and he make Minnie tougher but its not earth shattering.

Tanner doesn't seem to think much of Hanzal. That has me worried.

Oduya looked ok yesterday
It's not easy for any DMan to look good on that team.

Who would have thought at this point of the year that
Dallas and Tampa Bay would be out ,the Blues would fire the coach and be scrambling for a wild card spot

A lot of experts had TBay / Blues final.

Couple of things:

(MY OPINION) RE HANZAL:

Probably higher thought of by players and scouts than some fans. FWIW. His size at his position and that he fact that the uses it somewhat makes in some ways like Anisimov, tough to handle around the net and down low.

But it's a similar situation to 2015 with the Hawks. They saw what happened with a lack of center depth in the 2014 playoffs—it will catch up with you. Especially big, physical centers.

So no, Hanzal is not going to come in to MN and be Jean Beliveau. But he gives Minnesota more functional depth and size at a critical position, where the Hawks are already sort of questionable at best. It's a two-fold win for Minnesota unless the Hawks can fill the need elsewhere.

ODUYA

Heard just now from a second source in 24 hours, Hawks are ramping up their pursuit.

a 1st and 2nd and what will at least be a 3rd + is not nothing for a rental. Who has a long history of injuries and never has scored over 16 or so goals in a season. he is great at the Dot and is solid Def and will get in front of the net. Hypothetically you are talking about trading him for Hartman, SAAD and HAYDEN. I know it could also be Mcneal, dhalstrom and Icaapoli.

If what I'm hearing about hot pursuit of Oduya is true, Hawks are being extra cautious with Hjalmarsson or his back is pretty bad.

Also, I would expect some smaller add of like a Jay McClement in addition to Oduya, if they can make the dollars work.

That was the only thing that self serving blowhard Pierre said last night that was worth hearing, although it's always good to draw Gord Miller over "Doc" anytime. When I heard the trade was made not knowing the compensation yet I thought Ericksonn-Ek would be going the other way or Tuch, Greenway or Olofsson along with a 1st or 2nd.

We don't know what the conditional pick will end up but getting Hanzal for what amounts to a late 1st, a late 2nd and the conditional seems a good get for MN especially if there was a bidding war at the the TDL.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

Conditional pick: If MIN wins one playoff round this year, it becomes 3rd round pick; if MIN wins two rounds, it becomes 2nd round pick.

One more thought, Oduya is much better on the left side than the right, so he is not a plug and play replacement for Hjalmarsson, but more likely reduces Campbell and Kempny's minutes. Campbell can also play some right side.
