his style in the net shows why he wasn't able to duplicate "the run".

I've been saying this since half way through "the run".....Hammond is not a good goaltender. he has glaring holes in his game.....can't handle the puck, terrible positioning, and bad rebound control. he had a 22 game string of ridiculous luck in the middle of a very very average career....and got paid a lot of money for it.

I said it from day one......keeping Hammond and getting rid of lehner was probably the dumbest move murray ever made. in hindsight we got white out of it so it doesn't look so bad, but I HATED that decision at the time.

Hammond IS NOT an NHL goalie.

also of note.....with claessen in Ottawa was doing very well, in the 2 games since he was taken out of the lineup and boro put back in, Ottawa is 0-2 and has been outscored 10-0...........just saying.

Hammond also benefited from the rest of the team playing amazing that year.

stone and Hoffman both had break out years.

Sens got Colin White out of it. Could prove to be a great trade.

Considering that Lehner was not going to win the #1 spot over Anderson, it was a good move to get the first rounder that landed Colin White.
Hammond hasn't worked out as the backup, which is not a big surprise. The 3 year contract is a pretty good reward for what was a fantastic and fun run for the team and fans. It would be good to see a more solid backup option for the future.

With the current roster and game plan, pretty much.

Boucher is doing what he can with what he has got. Facing top teams, who are on their game, will be a tough feat as it stands right now.

I think there was more to moving Lehner than Hammond. Any logical fan, coach, executive, etc could tell Hammond just had an amazing run with a team that was clutch more times then they deserved. He's your classic "shot block" goalie. Just hopes the puck hits at the right time.

It happens. A guy gets hot, then is never heard from again. Hammond will be one of those guys.

At the time, I did think Hammond was a precursor for a Lehner deal, but looking at in now and more stories about Lehner made available, I think it's more of a "let's get Lehner out while we can" type move rather than "Hammond is the next one" type move. As some of said already, we did get Colin White out of the deal.

I've always maintained the goaltenders position is the one position you can't really do much about. Look around the league and great goaltenders range from high draft choices to "let's take this guy cause his mom is hot" draft choices. Once you have one, you hold on to him for dear life, but getting that "one" is more luck than any other position in hockey.

Nonetheles, being the Ottawa Senators, we will likely never have that luck pan out in that position.

I've been saying for a long time we are a #1C and a #2LW away from being a contender. But BM was useless at making big deals and so far nothing has changed. we'll never be a cup contender until that happens, we'll just be stuck in this never ending rebuild and known as a middle of the road team. which is to bad because we are wasting our players primes.

It has been reported multiple times that we have been talking with the Avalanche, So I am hoping for Duchene but they are asking way to much.

Hey, I went looking for some thoughts on who the Sens will protect in expansion draft but couldn't find anything. THoughts? is Lazar protected?

Given that the front office seems very relaxed about the expansion draft, the common thought around the city seems to be that Phaneuf will wave his no-move clause, knowing that LV will never pick up his salary. That would allow Ottawa to protect Karlsson-Methot-Ceci on the back end, Turris-Stone-Hoffman-Brassard-Dzingle-Pageau-Smith up front.

God willing, LV picks Ryan...but unless McPhee is drunk on draft day, that will never happen. So that leaves Lazar, Wideman and Borowiecki as the most likely pickups, unless they grab a minor league guy on a 2-way contract... because quite frankly the options above aren't that great.

I expect they pick Lazar just to take a shot that he somehow turns around his game... but if you've seen him play at any point over the last 2 years, you'd know that'll probably never happen. He's just plain aweful...good attitude and great kid...no hands and no confidence to make a play...

IMO Borowiecki would be the best pickup for LV. He's cheap, has ridiculous heart and can play the enforcer role on what will be a bad team. An enforcer that can actually play serviceable minutes isn't all that common, so could be a solid pickup depending on their needs.
