I am not sure if this was posted before but here is a Benning interview from last night's Dice and Ice

https://twitter.com/TSN10...status/826888511408238593

It talks in depth on Tyramkin, the draft , JV , Trades .It is a 16 min interview but it gives good insight of what way the team is heading.

so do i. brodeur being the artist makes it even more awesome. it's very reminiscent of "the hockey sweater," (if anyone remembers that ridiculously good cartoon/book.)

Thanks Carol for the great blog as always. Didn't know Brodeur was a good painter, wondered how much that painting went for. Glad it was for charity.

If LV goes a different direction and Hitch is available in the offseason (and say we end up near the bottom of the table)...do we kick the tires here?

I'm not sure personally.

Great coach. Tough demanding personality.

Sorta Torts like.

The team seems to respond better to player's coaches (AV).

I am sure there are a few here that think thats the country-club's fault and the cycle needs to be broken. For me though, he was only there 5 years and was hated by the St Louis players well before this season. Its a real hit/miss situation that I would personally not want to risk with the youth coming in. You can make some good players with a coach like that but also drive many away as well

Benning said JV is doing better , he doesn't care about his points. He is starting to hit and shoot more and will be part of the Canucks going forward. Very happy with progress.

They are hoping to make the playoffs and even win a round or two and still expect to get a very good draft pick in the top 20

Team plays very hard for WD . He likes what he sees.

TRyamkin and Stecher have exceeded expectations and are very happy with progress. He wants Tree to play meaner more often . He is ahead of Chara at that age except in meanness.

They will not be in on going after rentals . Pretty much expect to see this team until years end

white lie-
yes he is great coach but has an expiry with the players. Makes players or breaks players you are exactly right. Ask brett hull. He said he hated hitchcock so much but said he made him a much better player.

He's probably best here in a supporting role. Teaching the game is his greatest asset, so use your strengths. Teach positional play to the players, implement systems, teach WD how to coach on the technical side and troubleshoot team play from the stands. For the most part from a far, away from players.

One more thing from me...

I had a good chat with Alex Burrows after practice yesterday. He likes where the team is at and thinks Bo Horvat will be as good as Ryan Kesler someday.

Here's the Q&A, from Sportsnet.ca:

I actually think Horvat has a higher ceiling than Kesler...I also think we already have our future 1 C.

Idk where ppl invent COUNTRY CLUB slogans & apply it to this team.
Grasping at any straw to explain what they don't have any basis on doing so.
Who can explain where it comes from?

Like I said, sometimes it makes great players, but how many good young players in recent years have left teams to get away from those kind of coaches? Vancouver isnt in a position to risk losing talent because of a coach.

As for teaching role, I'll say the same thing I said to Nuck4U. Its the NHL, not a development league. If Willie isnt ready for the NHL, fire him and let him go learn it in the AHL. Players will not respect or perform under a coach that doesnt have full autonomy
