Wow, wierd. Jim must have been a bad guy. Cause there is no way you get rid of a good Corsi.

Just goes to show all you advanced stats losers, your precious Corsi got fired! Old time hockey wins again!

This is the same GM who signed Stastny to a 4 year 28 million dollar deal and I'm pretty sure most Blues fans out there would agree he's not worth that type of money and the cap space could have been used to extend Shattenkirk.

it was the going rate at the time

4 years isn't a bad term but the 7 million is what he would have gotten in FA from anyone

I expect him to sign a much more team friendly deal once this one clears

Two contracts are hurting the blues IMO Jay Bo and Lehtera

Shatty is gone no matter what cap space the blues have Parayko will take his minutes and excel

Feel bad for Hitch but it needed to happen.

Wouldn't surprise me if this ended up coming from Stillman or with strong suggestion from Stillman. People getting sick of the losses and Hitch coming out w "we had lots of positives here tonight. Team trying to get upgrades done at Scottrade right when they are pooping the bed.

Not making the playoffs gets Army fired too. Letting Shatty leave w no Compensation gets Army fired too.

Good for Yeo to get in there now and start running his own crew. Could see this coming a bit with changes to the coaches on the bench.

So I guess that Corsi's Corsi wasn't very good. What about his Fenwick?

More like trying to salvage the season

32 games left

That's a lot of games to try and still make the playoffs

No doubt..... It's still a good team.... Just saying going to be a hard to make up the points they already lost.

Well, the really positive news is that 3 of the last 5 years, the Stanley Cup Winner finished 3rd in their division.

So, there's no need to make up points. Just maintain our position and stay in the WC position.

Exactly. Without Stastny our top 2 C's are Lehtera and Berglund or Backes on a bad contract.

Lehtera has turned out to be a bad signing but I don't think it was a very bad signing at the time it was made. He looked to have good chemistry with our best scorer and was playing at a pretty high level in his first year. Shorter term would have been the right play with Lehtera, the deal he got only looks bad in hindsight though.

At the time of J-Bo's signing the cap hit wasn't bad either. If we let him go he could have been a terrible contract on a different team, greater cap hit and/or term for sure. Now he's just a moderately bad contract on ours. Every team pays at least a few guys more than they are worth to keep a solid squad on the ice. So we could let him go in 2014 and pretend that in the last 2 years, when we had a solid chance at a cup, it didn't matter if we had better odds with him than without.

I really don't think Army has made many glaring mistakes. Moving Bishop, to keep Elliott, which I was upset with at the time and certainly now. Probably didn't hurt us while Elliott was putting up some of the best numbers in the league. Ottawa also gave up on him, so it could be that he started putting in the effort when he realized TB might have been his last chance.

I know this is all spin but I still think it's reasonable. You really have to put yourself in his shoes at the time of the trades/signings. At the time, you don't know you're not coming home with a cup at the end of the year. Even in hindsight, when you don't win it all, it doesn't mean that a rental wasn't the right move.

I see the playoffs as a massive crapshoot. Especially when you're looking at them from the trade deadline. You can end up missing one of your best players, normally terrible players can step their game for a series or two, normally great players can disappear, anyone can end up trying to play through sickness/injury.

If the GM is only concerned with how a signing will look at the end of the deal, they will never put together a team to win now.

Armstrong should have been the first to go.

Mike Yeo is not the answer.
