Losing Forsling would hurt, but if it's the price of winning....

Thanks for the rumor updates JJ.
Personally I hope they stay clear of the Iginla, Doan, Vanek crowd....
If they make a move I would rather up the price a little and go for the Duchesne, Langescog, Tatar, Nyquist kinda guy. Not as old and some chance of having beyond a run.
I think MOST deadline adds are nothing more than NAMES...guys who USE to be good.
I say, stay clear of that. More times than not there is nothing left in the tank and they add very little.
When healthy, Hawks as configured are not far off ANY team in the West, and get to the Finals ...you gotta shot!
The rumors are interesting. Just hope we don't pick up one or two aging, almost dead pieces to make a run. Big mistake in my book!!!
Oh....Hawks against a REALLY struggling TB. 2015 Cup fianls re-match. At the time, thought Lightning were ready for several years of Cup runs. Didn't think Stamkoes injury would floor them so much. Interesting to see what they have. I still think they are better than their record. Should be an interesting game!!!
Go Hawks!@!!! |

Well I trust the organization to make the right call, they've been pretty good at evaluating and being realistic in what kind of talent they actually have. Which is pretty impressive in itself. It's going to be an interesting month, my spidey senses tell me they will try to make a move but in the end they'll make some minor deal and keep playing just good enough into the playoffs. |

I think TVR is good enough to get all 3 of those guys from DET. a younger cost controlled # 5 D should be good enough to get a Rental in vanek or TATAR has less goals then Panik, Nyquest is on about the same pace as HINO. There is only one team that has consistently over paid at the trade deadline and that is the hawks so if they don't overpay I'm not convinced who does? Caps and Pen don't really need anyone. also trading kempny unless he has asked for a trade is not going to sit well with a guy who could have signed with any team and picked the hawks just to get shipped off. We traded a top 5 D man for scudari last year? did the Pens overpay? |

I hope they keep him. Forsling that is.
Is he wobbly in his end at times? Yes
Do people blow by him on zone entries? Yes
Is he weak on the boards? Yes
He's also very good at holding onto the puck and moving it up ice. He can skate very well. He is offensively gifted. He has a hard, accurate shot. He is good with the all-important stick check. Oh and he's young and cheap.
Most importantly, he is a treat to watch. I watch hockey to be entertained. |

Tatar sounds very intriguing. $2.75 mil and is an RFA after this season. |

Agree 100%, Forsling is Campbell's replacement for next season. He is small and green but I love the potential and they need that cheap salary. I expect him to be called up from Rockford before the end of the season. |

I haven't heard anything worth repeating but I thought the Hawks would have a deal done before February begins.
There is some logic to the thinking of trading a dman, although depth at that position is necessary for a long playoff run-Even if 4 guys play the majority of minutes because they need insurance in case of injury....
But I doubt it will be TVR for a rental. Q loves him and realize how much he has played since returning from his injury. |

I would not trade Forsling. The NHL depth on D might be above Avg. But Forsling is the best D prospect we have (IMO) . He is an ideal in house and cheap replacement for soupy, or one of the top 3 if they are moved. He has a good shot, didnt seem intimidated and is still maturing.
If a d-man is going to be traded I would move TVR. I like him and would hate to seem him leave, but other than Forsling he is the only cheap d-man, with some upside and term. |

I would put my own cut off for the trade deadline as of Feb 15 and not feb 27th. We have 25 games left as 18th-end of the season but only 20 left at feb 27th. there is no point of trading a guy to help you in the playoffs if he does not get chemistry with the team and learns the system. if he cannot get a deal done by then I run with our guys who have gotten better as the year has gone on and understand the system and get some chemistry. we got nothing from Weiss, Flesch, Timo, and really only in ST for Vermette. (which goes to show you it takes more then 15-20 games to learn our system) Ladd was Ok but he has played here before.

Great post as usual! JJ, isn't Phoenix looking for defenseman? Would you trade Forsling or Kempney + 3rd Rd pick for Jammie McGinn with Phoenix retaining half his salary? McGinn is having an off year but he is still relatively young at 28 and under contract for 3 years. He looked awfully good in the playoffs last year. |

Toews made point of bringing up the chemistry issue more than once over the summer.
Hawks have a light schedule in February.

Knowing Ken Holland and the teams he likes to put together I'd be shocked at any deal with the Hawks that doesn't involve Forsling.
Would definitely do it if it meant Tatar but not so much if Vanek is the return. |

They have a week off between the 11th and the 18th. That is why I picked the 15th. get him in on the 16th and probably gets a practice on the 17th and 18th before the last 5 games in FEB. |

Honestly, without moving a "core" salary, do the Blackhawks have the prospects or young D-men that would return a Tatar, Nyquist..let alone a Duchene or Landeskiog??

No, thats why I think Seabrook is the #1 trade piece the Hawks have |
