If Vegas won't take him, we can always try to do what the Leafs do...put him on LTIR and tell him not to play. But that won't happen because Varly isn't in his mid-upper 30's like Robidas and Lupul. So we're stuck with the cap hit

Just had an Avs question,...... any idea what Avs are looking for in trade for Iggy?

Thanks

Mid round draft pick? Pretty much anything at this point.

I'd love to put him on waivers, but that means we are tipping our hand. We can't be seen as desperately trying to get rid of him and hoping someone will take him for free. We need him to come back later this season and win some games in order for him to have some kind of value. If he comes back healthy and can win some games, that will hopefully entice Vegas or someone else. If he's not taken in the expansion draft, aggressively shop him (maybe even with a pick) and hope someone will absorb that 5.9 Million

Better question: Why the (frank) would you want Jarome Iginla?

Also, I forgot he was still playing.

i haven't watch many Avs games this year. Does Iggy have much left in the tank?
Love the idea of him showing some leafs youth how to do it.

Edit. *it meaning how to be a pro.

I would take a 3rd round pick bc Avs dont have one this year. If they can get that, Im sure they are happy

no much left in the tank when it comes to offense, but hes still a mean SOB who doesnt let anything happen to his guys. He tried to fight Giordano the other night. Mucking it up and setting him up on the 2nd PP in his normal spot, he could be useful in that way.
Other than that, hes a 4th line player

If we move on from Varly, whether it be via trade, expansion draft or whatever, would it make any sense to target Ben Bishop in free agency?

nah. Bishop is 30. His career would be going downhill just as the Avs start contending.

I don't think they'll get much for him. Sakic has so much respect for Iggy that he's going to trade him to the top team on his list for whatever they're willing to give up for him. (W5)

yeah Semyon Varlamov is done like dinner, time to pull the plug.

Bishop wouldn't be a bad option.

no, hes not.
I dont think he ever will be more than just a good back up.

They need to figure out their goalie of the future situation. Spencer Martin could be that guy but thats not a for sure thing either.

Only two more years. After this off season cap won't be a problem I think

Sign Grubauer for next season. He's underrated imho and should be fairly cheap.

Iggy is a notoriously late-starter. He tends to be better in the second half of the season. It probably wouldn't take much to get him and cup-hopefuls looking for depth-scoring and leadership could do much worse than Iggy as a late-season addition.
I'd like to see him get a last shot at the Cup. He's a great guy who has had a great career and given the right situation, would be a real asset in the playoffs.

Too bad about Varly but the writing is definitely on the wall. It sort of reminds me of Roy's hip injury he dealt with at the end of his career. You just KNOW the guy can still play but if he can't get healthy enough to get back in a rhythm, I just don't think the Avs can depend on him any more.

Picks is starting to remind me a little bit of Budaj: When he is GOOD he is REALLY good but when he is BAD, he is awful. I don't know if it's a conditioning thing or a mental thing but he has to step it up if he wants to be a starter.

On the other hand, I'm really looking forward to seeing Martin get a shot. With the way this season has gone, there are no real expectations so the pressure (other than what he puts on himself) shouldn't be too bad. If Picks doesn't perform, I'd say go ahead and let Martin play. You don't want a young guy getting shellacked every night but we really need to know where we are goalie-wise going forwards...

Bishop is too old and injured to be handed out a massive contract. Anything over 5.5 Million and anything more than 3 years is an overpayment for him. We need to fix our D, let's see what Picks can do with an improved team. Picks hasn't looked great, but he hasn't been terrible either. Go with Picks/Martin for next year.

I wouldnt shut the door on Varly yet. Lets see how he responds after taking some time off to get healthier. If he still stinks after being shut down to heal then yeah I would say look at options this summer.

But if he responds, or gets the groin surgery that he has never done in the past 3 seasons. I think if he gets that done you give him one last shot.

RFA next season, dont see Wsh letting him go since they do need to have a goalie signed to expose to the draft.

Good idea but until this bloody draft is over, the goalie market is so messy
