Thanks Todd. Though I can't believe you used the term 'scary good'...

Sick pass by Tkachuk. I'm still amazed we were able to get him! He's everything we expected and more. Its too bad he doesn't get more press because to me he's a more rounded player that Laine or Matthews and should get more consideration for the Calder. Meh, just glad he plays for us...

I loved that sequence when Johnny got crosschecked to the ice and came back and crosschecked the Fla player half a dozen times. IMO, that's what he has to do instead of looked at the refs for a call every time he gets targeted....which is every shift.

Have you actually watched Laine or Matthews play? I'd love to hear you try and break down how Tkachuk is a more rounded player than those two. Because he takes a lot of penalties?

Yes, he's having a great rookie year for the Flames, but he's at least a tier below Mathews and Laine who are both complete hockey płayers.

He gets points for trying thats for sure. Was pissed when he got slashed and no one stuck up for him. Not sure why they let this continue.

That's true, they haven't really put anyone with him who does that well. I'd love to see someone with him who keeps other team honest. Maybe Brouwer but he's not really that type of player either. The Oilers went out and got Lucic...someone like that would be perfect.

To be fair regarding comparisons between Tkachuk andMatthews/Laine I think it's important to note that Tkachuk started with bottom 6 mins and minimal to no PP time while the other two were given top 6 time/linemates/PP time right from the start of the year. Tkachuk has pushed his way up depth chart due to his play and is only around 7 or so pts behind the big two. If he was given more opportunity to start the season he would probably be closer, imo.

Laine, yes. His shot suppression and underlying numbers are bad. Matthews, no. He's spectacular at both ends.

That's not accurate either. He's had a regular shift on the power play from game one. He's taken 90% of his shifts with Backlund and Frolik. Only 1% of his shifts have been with bottom six players (Stajan and Hathaway), and he was playing around 15 minutes a night by the end of October.

Willing to bet you our record when one of the D scores is pretty damn close to no loses. Need to get the big 3 on the back end more engaged.

I love Chucky
but lets be honest, I think most of us would trade him for either Matthews or Laine in a heart beat
(only caveat being Laine just had a concussion...hopefully its not a recurrent or longstanding issue)

Maroon would have been perfect

I never really see Brouwer engage much physically, its pretty annoying

Backlund starting to get the recognition he has always deserved.

Matthews is probably already a top 10 player in the league.

I have been following him also (big part of my keeper league rebuild) and his ice from the start would be around 9-12 mins. Then he got a bump at the beginning of nov to 17 mins for a few games then back down to 11-12 per with the occasional bump to the 15 range. It proves what I was saying in a way. He has had to earn every min he gets and has helped create a line that is dangerous. Bottom line is that he's a very effective player and a steal at #6. If that draft was today he would go #3 all day and would be playing with Mcdavid (possibly). Imagine his totals then.

#3 was Columbus.

So he'd be ripping up the East on Wennberg or Boone's line.

God help us if Columbus took Dubois again in that draft.

Or if they re-did the lottery, Edmonton won, and McDavid/Matthews were on a team.

That draft couldn't have gone better for us.

it could have gone better if we won the lottery and picked up a Matthews or Laine

Not so sure about that. I doubt anyone from the top 5 is aching to repick quite yet. Everyone picked above him is probably going to be a stud.

Yes, Maroon ... I didn't think he was a good enough player but this year he looks like he is. Brouwer seems to be able to diffuse things when he's out there. Not sure if it's a respect thing but he seems to be able to calm things down.
