Peter Tessier: Pa-ving the way to what? Jets recall Pavelec Winnipeg makes a controversial move to recall Pavelec and get help between the pipes.

At the beginning of the season, I advocated that the starting tandem be Hellebuyck and Pavelec. Than when the Jets sent down Pavelec, I was impressed with the bold move and really applauded the organization for moving forward.

But now....YIKES, talk about major DESPERATION.... I am not impressed by this move at all. All it looks like is the organization is giving the fans some smoke and mirrors.

Also, Burmistrov got a point in his Coyotes debut yesterday and the Jets have really struggled since they let him go. He was also the only Jet to question the coaching publicly.

I thought it would be Pavelec Hutch too. I was surprised by the move but not shocked. I see merit in that tandem to start and if things went wrong then send him down.

I'm thinking that Pomo and Chevy felt that with Ehlers and Trouba developing so fast Helle might do the same. Ooops

I think the best thing for a goalie's development would be to keep them away from Wade Flaherty. Too bad Helle has to go through waivers to escape him now.

Saying that, if Pavelec comes in and is amazing does that mean Rick St. Croix > Wade Flaherty?

Every move they make now is irrelevant. Season is lost. Time to bring up some of their defensive prospects and get them some experience.

What you offering for Mason or Neuvirth? Cause you don't want to be raked by Pittsburgh for Fleury.

Pass on both. I would though love it, if the Jets went out and signed Sean Burke to become associate head and goaltender coach for the Jets.

I was really onboard with Chevy when the Jets moved to Winnipeg, but now, this organization needs a shakeup, he's been at it for too long for them to be in the position they're in.

Somethings wrong with the makeup of this team, they should be better than they are!

I couldn't agree more with this article, it is bang on. As a guy who played the game (but not at this level), I could see this team's confidence going on a mental level. You need consistent goaltending and the Jets current tandem are ECHL level unfortunately. Sorry, but its a fact. This young team makes a ton of mistakes, but a goalie needs to bail them out once in awhile. This current goaltending tandem can't do it, and the Arizona game and the Montreal game, the game was over after the first 5 minutes. Yep, defense has to be better and they need to stay out of the box but this teams confidence in having a goalie that can bail them out as the last line of defence is not there. I think the fans in Wpg are so happy to have a team, they are reluctant to pressure management to try and improve the goaltending. Chevy has done a good job drafting, but like the article says, the fruit isn't ripe yet. But, the stats show the true tale of goaltending since the team came back and that is a fact. Chevy's consistent mantra of having a steady hand at the draft and develop tiller needs to be given a rest. Take a chance on a trade like Edmonton did with Talbot. The fans also need to start demanding more from the management and quit being so passive in that were just happy to be back in the league.

Burmi got an assist , no shots on goal and was 4/13 in the faceoff dept.

Let's not forget Hellebuyck starred in the AHL, played well in the world championships for the US, and was selected to Team USA in the last World Cup. I would suggest that he should have been NHL ready, at least as a backup.

Why would they offer anything for those two.
Neither of those two would save this season and are UFA...they can wait if they thought those two would be any better.

Mase seems to have a head block that when someone is ready to steal his net he goes off the deep end. In Winnipeg they don't have the guy who will immediately steal the net. See the Flyers win streak while Stolarz was up. Neuvirth returned and Mase forgets how to make saves.

Yes goalies are freaking head cases.

Just waiting for the day when this team's management figures out that the end goal is winning.

Flaherty's gotta go. Name one goaltender who has IMPROVED under Flaherty.

Huddy should have been gone two years ago.

Paul Maurice is fine, but a friendly reminder that Gerard Gallant is out there...

Ondřej Pavelec... give me a break... piecemeal move if I've ever seen one CAN WE PLEASE GET A VETERAN GOALIE IN HERE TO HELP US ALONG FOR A YEAR OR TWO!?!??!

@NHLJets... I'm getting irritated...

Bringing Pavs up is merely a band-aid on a much bigger wound. Maurice and his staff need to go. I support Craig Button's comments on this 100%. Hitchcock, Gallant, whomever. Time for a change.

Good points but other than AHL those events could simply have been hot steaks in isolation of where he is now.

I think he can and will be better but he needs some time to manage his game and his head.

Nobody traded for Burmi. He has how many points in how many games played? He made nothing happened and was just an annoyance when he had the puck because it was a waste of possession.

I think we have different definitions of prospect.
Prospect (pros-pekt):an apparent probability of advancement, success, profit, etc.

This list does not contain a top end prospect and the ones with the Moose are barely serviceable in the AHL this Year. Poolman might be ok, but he's not eligible until he turns pro.

If the Jets had a D-man to call up that could pass as a NHL level defensemen, they would have done it. Instead we get Melchiori as our depth. D depth is an organizational weakness.

To anyone suggesting Gallant or even Capuano. They would both be terrible fits for this team. Capuano is just a bad coach, plain and simple. He had Brian Strait on his top pairing ON PURPOSE for several games in multiple seasons. Gallant is a good coach, but would be bad for us for all the same reasons he was bad for Florida: values size over skill, confuses physicality with actual defence, and refuses to play kids unless he absolutely has to. Get Hitchcock if possible, bring in Hawerchuk for the PR value, or clear the bench around Maurice and let him choose his own assistants (which they should've done originally).
