You guys were so busy "shutting down" the Matthews line you forgot about nifty mittens and just how nifty his mittens are.

Fun game. Still not as good as the battle of Alberta. But fun.

I love that a bunch of Canadian teams have bounced back.

This summer Mark Stone and Kyle Turris are eligible for contract extensions. Turris turns 29 next summer (when he's UFA). So 5-6 years makes most sense. I think Stone HAS to get 8 years. Stone will turn 26 when his new contract kicks in. I'd say BOTH are 6m per.

2018-2019 season (1.5 years from now)

Ryan:------- 7.25m
Phaneuf:--- 7.00m
Karlsson:--- 6.50m
Stone:------ 6.25m
Turris:------ 6.25m
Hoffman:--- 5.19m
Brassard:--- 5.00m
Methot:----- 4.90m

IF they all were here it would cost around 48.34m. We have no goalies signed. We also have Karlsson, Methot, Brassard all headed for UFA

Hopefully you're not talking about the shot that was going wide and deflected off Gardiner's arse and into the net.

I think Phaneuf I can stomach because the Sens were HORRIBLE ...rotating d-men with Ceci and look at the stats - 6 goals, 17 points ! He's playing well just not 7m

The team was also heavily compensated for taking on the contract, to the tune of more than $8.5M (more, if you consider that they might have still been fumbling around with Cowen)... plus they saved whatever ludicrous trade cost there would have been to bringing in another top-4 defenceman. That trade appears to have worked out well for both sides, but I really don't understand why some people continue to view Phaneuf in such a negative light.

It happened the second the Leafs traded for him. Cancer in the dressing room apparently. We had to hear it with Kessel as well. All Leafs players are viewed that way.

Oh please...

Van fans praised the Kesler and Bobby Lou trade and OTT fans kept talking about how trash Cowen, Michalek and Greening were.

He was loved in CGY.. Too much pressure in Toronto.. Paid too much to be a 3/4 guy in Ottawa..

And he can't hit the (frank)ing net or fight.. I don't know how he's been in Ottawa, but he used to always cost us games turning the puck over.

100% correct.

But sens fans trashed Cowen and Greening endlessly for a long time before they were traded.

Michalek not so much, but he wasn't loved right before he was traded.

I was thinking the same thing. I kinda feel bad for him. They were showing him on the bench and, he looks absolutely LOST.

Trade worked out well for both teams:
Ottawa got better on D, Leafs got a little worse in the short term to guarantee the full tank
Leafs freed up cap space, Ottawa traded useless bad money for useful bad money, and are paying Dion less than his cap hit, which is perfect for Eugene.

Sounds crazy, but both teams are better now because of that trade.
