I hope Streit and Gudas are ready for Saturday. If so MDZ and Manning sit. Those two alone almost cost the Flyers this game with penalties.

If only one is ready MDZ wins for taking the penalties that gave 5 on 3's

MDZ and Manning led all Flyers in 5v5 ice time, so I have no clue what the coach thinks about either. So much PK didn't factor in a ton because they still each got almost 5 minutes there. Plus they also got almost twice the 5v5 ice time of Ghost.

Hmmmmm.

Still enough 5 vs 5 time to continue his spiraling minus stats (-15)

Nice high light summary. I can add commentary. Too many calls against were overcome by a determined Flyers team. Best way to get two points is play the Canucks. WD is your best option for a win again on 2/19. I am sure if MDZ plays he won't get penalized like that again.

Not sure why but have more confidence in Neuvy. Mason's been good might just be overworked. Tough start with thecareless penalties by Manning and Delzotto but out of character for both of them so will give them a pass. Thought both were solid after that , Hack must of as well looking at there ice time. Third goal Mason has to stop, he didn't get much help which is why Ghost 's 5/5 ice was down as he was benched for a while after that goal. Provy had a tough game but has been so good he gets a pass as well. Overall after the hole we had killing penalties thought we battled hard. Thought Cousins had a solid game, he has better hands than Luby, doesn't skate as well but definetly has better hockey IQ. Need Gudas back in lineup, he'll help will be interesting what Hexy does if Streit's good to go this weekend.

Which goal was his fault? The one that Schultz chased the puck and Simmonds was late to cover? Or the one where he boxed out Granlund to take a weak post jam attempt that Mason poorly let in?

Ghost has one of the lowest PDOs in the league and this is a good example combined with last game getting 0 points when he could have gotten 3-4 easy. D men like Ekblad, Brodie, Muzzin, OEL, Hamonic, and Leddy all have almost identically bad +/-, and I'm sure you people would lynch them all too. Anyway, a ton of that +/- is based on empty net goals and shorties. Forget that the underlying numbers are among the best on the team, forget he's had among the worst puck luck in the league, forget the eye test. That +/- really nails how he's played individually and shows we need to trade him. Simmonds is right behind Ghost, can we all agree he's been a disaster too? Notice how the 5 worst players on the team are all on that PP/empty net unit.

How much Mase has regressed this year has me worried, and Neuvy is a career back up nothing more. You're going to have to ride these two until the end of the year, but at this point I'm ready to see more starts from Stolarz next season, and not just because someone is injured and out for a while.

This Flyers team is an unmade bed. They aren't fast enough or good enough to compete at the next level.

But they are fun to watch.

On the second Granlund goal, Gostisbehere initially had Granlund well covered in the circle then watched the puck for a split second, letting his check step around him and get away with a lane to the net. Thereafter, Ghost never had stick or body position on him. That's absolutely a save Mason needed to make from that angle but Ghost was of little help on the play once he got caught watching the puck.

I agree. Overall I see mase as the more durable and reliable starter. Neuvy is so fantastic in these small spurts. Really tempts you into thinking he's capable of being the guy.

On another topic, I know he's got his limitations, but I was thinking, streit was in the lineup for the 10 game run, and I think his injury has coincided with our slide. Wondering if that's coincidence or that the young d benefitted from him being the captain for the group and allowed everyone else to be slotted correctly.

Hoping he comes back and helps stabilize things back there because we've been a mess in our zone.

Del Zotto led the Flyers in ice time. I doubt he is going to sit out.

I think you need to watch the replay on the 2nd Granlund goal. Gostisbehere stopped skating to peak in at the puck, while Granlund skated around him and beat him to the net. In terms of coverage, that goal is on Gostisbehere. Mason should make the save, but Gostisbehere blew the coverage.

To be clear, overall no one player should be singled out. The breakdowns in both coverage and in puck management were too many to mention. The Flyers were a disaster last night defensively. They've been bad all year defensively. I've heard a lot of criticism of Hakstol as a coach, but not for what he really should be criticized for. Not correcting this teams coverage and puck handling issues that have been present all season.

I disagree. It's important to be superficial and single out one player as the problem. This way it's easier for some to rationalize the struggles. For example, last night was all masons fault right? If we only had Martin jones or any other tender we'd be cup favourites. Haha. I couldn't resist.
