I never thought the Coach was a problem before last night but now I think 89 may be right about him losing the room.

after only a year and a half...that's pretty quick...

came away from the game last night thinking they need new on-ice leadership...love Gionta, but he doesn't have the fire they need, imo...gorges time has come and gone...

I still think risto would make the best captain for this team

The only line combo we didn't see last night was Nelsson playing wing

Captain could be fed up with coaches demands too.

maybe...but i'm tired of passive professionalism that dates back to "la core" and i'm sorry to say this, but I think O'reilly's in that vein...

I want to see what the angry finn can bring out in this team

Gotta say I'm not impressed with all the line juggling...
There is a dynamic going on we don't know about... doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out after listening to Jack and the coaches post game interviews. It's was like oil and water last night.

Also why isn't the caption answering post game interviews?

I never actually played so some of this is over my paygrade, but this conversation is very interesting, in part because I think it incorporates some of the CORSI type stuff but goes beyond and tries to break apart why the Sabres CORSI isn't working.

http://forums.sabrespace....-will-they-stay-together/

Can somebody tell me if this is any legit?

For fuller context:

"We just don’t play hockey between the blue lines like good teams. We’re a decade behind right now. We spend so much time chasing loose pucks and not creating and manipulating space. We intentionally give it up after finally getting it back, hoping that our two LA-style wingers, Kane and Foligno, can get it back. Half of our shifts those guys aren’t even on the ice. Carolina has spent the last 110 games practicing what they do, playing hockey with 5 players on the ice, and they’re getting good at it despite their deficiencies. We’re getting fed up and getting frustrated and sloppy, and look worse and worse. There’s no more confidence in any of these guys with the puck on their sticks. They don’t practice creating and using space, they don’t practice fast decisions to exploit teams that put immediate pressure on the puck-carrier, and they look lost at sea and teams like Carolina know exactly how to handle it. They force the pressure, they get the puck, and they know how to not give it back. This is not a talented team we played, but it sure is a team that knows how to play effective hockey. Our players are starting to know that what they do isn’t working."

Partly. That and not stepping on the throat when they had 4 PP's in the second.

They had the chance to end the game there and didn't. He was upset by how listless the team was in the middle frame after they got the lead, and then giving the Sabres a powerplay late when it was 2-1.

I'll tell you what I hate, and think is a major issue. Maybe it's coaching, maybe players.

When's the last time we had a 2 on 1 goal? Not counting 3 on 3 OT where it's odd man rushes back and forth.

Seriously, do we ever score because a team made a mistake against us, like Carolina did?

good point, Brodie...they have their moments when they're on the offensive, and it's a blitzkrieg, but those moments are limited to a portion of the game

This is somewhat true, but the Canes roster is built to play a specific way. Everything is about pressure.

The forwards funnel the opposition into the defense who attack the guy with the puck and force a turnover.

Passive D in their own end for the most part, but high pressure in the neutral zone. The forwards cover for the D, who have the green light to go 100% of the time.

The other thing is that Peters doesn't bench anyone. If you make a mistake, you will hear about it, but they are all told they are on the team because the organization believes they are capable of doing the job. Go do it. If you make a mistake, you will be given the opportunity to not make it a second time. That resonates a lot with these kids.

Seems like 90% of our goals are either PP, or just off of work around the net

We have no transition game

They do, but I think they have the most underrated D pairing in hockey with Slavin and Pesce.

Tremendous discipline all over the ice.

I mean, Slavin has taken 5 penalties in his 95 career NHL games. Only one penalty this year.

"Tim Murray has brought in Kulikov and Bogosian as top four additions to this team. They play together right now. I think we all know what these two players bring. They can transition the puck and can skate faster than average. They are prone to major lapses in the d-zone. They can hit too, but that’s not relevant to what we’re talking about. We are asking them to do exactly what they are bad at – low percentage, lightning fast decisions. Get the puck up to the evacuated wingers and do it fast and fit it in a tiny window. 99% of the time it doesn’t work and Carolina comes streaking right back in. These two, and McCabe, can skate very well. They don’t get activated in the offensive zone and rarely get involved in neutral zone play. We are using our defensemen for their weaknesses. Tim has to see this. He knows why he acquired these guys and he has to see that his coach doesn’t coach a style conducive to the players he brought in. I’m starting to think that this, combined with the way our team can’t start a game, has started Bylsma’s countdown."

Yeah. Just from the last couple games I would say the Sabres do a very poor job of getting the puck back from anything other than a missed shot, and aren't very effective a bringing it back up the ice under pressure.
