The next month and a half is where the Devils' season is made or broken. If they can still be solidly in the Wild Card picture come February, they have a decent chance to get in I think.

Brutal showing last night. Momentum swung big time when Price lost his mind (deserved a 10 minute game misconduct there). It's not getting any easier over the next few weeks as Todd pointed out.

Do we trade for D help now and try to make the playoffs? Or do we play it out and see where we end up and "hope" for the playoffs? I don't know the answer but we are seriously lacking talent on this team

Andy Greene is 34 and is our best defender. He's never really brought much offense and has been very steady if not exactly a dominant defender. Or maybe I should say a very feared guy in the league. After him it's really just a tire fire. Severson's hung in pretty well but is overused and has reasonable mistakes for a young defender. I really like him long term but this team would be so much better off with another top pairing guy and Severson on the second pair.

I like Shattenkirk and would love to trade for him now and avoid trying to get him in free agency. Or maybe Shero can find someone else to be difference maker. But this clearly isn't cutting it...

I think Shero waits it out. Was this year supposed to be as competitive its been? Maybe this is just positive momentum and that he'll address the clear deficits in the off-season.

If it turns ugly, what can you do. A strategist would rather have a better pick than finish 9th or 10th in the Conference.

This defense just flat out isn't good. With a well worked off-season, and some more seasoning to Severson and Auvitu, you might be able to next year:

#1 guy - Severson
Greene - Auvitu
Lovejoy - Santini/Whoever

Though they really need a big body that can clear the crease with efficiency.

Yeah, I think we ride it out this season, perhaps miss the playoffs, get a better pick and hopefully sign a free agent d-man. Better than giving up assets (which we have too few of) in a trade just to squeek into the playoffs.

I don't have a problem with that thinking. The problem is the team is currently 16th in the league and in that horrific no man's land where you aren't going to make the playoffs and you aren't going to get a good drafting spot.

The answer (assuming you don't want to trade assets) is free agency and we are the second lowest payroll team right now (per Capfriendly.com) Is ownership going to spend money?

By the way we are 25th in attendance... We were 20th in 12-13 following the cup run when people still thought we had a good team.

yeah, bizarre Price didn't get the boot from the game. I get that he has to stick up for himself, if he's getting run.

But he wasn't getting run. His own dman pushed Palmieri into him. It wasn't even hard. Not too sure why he chose that time to snap.

Henrique went into him before that also so I think he was a already pissed.

Watching there games is honestly getting brutal. is it to premature to spectulate a possible top 10 pick, or maybe even better? Schneiders been crap, and to top it off the D hasnt made it anybit easier. Yes our offense went from the worst in the league to okay we can score 3 goals if we have to. We all new Hall for Larsson was gonna leave amajor gap in the D. This up coming draft we need a goddamn scorer or a toptier defensive prospect. We need a top 10 pick or trade the pick.

We are in hockey hell as a mid pack team. They aren't going to tank and there are worse teams below us. They need to get some real help in free agency. The payroll is pathetic. Drafting is just one part of how you build a team.

People made fun of the Edmonton GM for the Larsson - Hall trade but he was smart enough to sin Lucic to compensate. We signed Lovejoy

I agree. I feel like the team last year was more competitive and in games. The last two games they got blown out.
