A streak reminiscent of Hammond's?! Are you taking fentanyl with your coffee? Hammond set a modern era record to start a career and got his team into the playoffs. There is nothing similar between his play and Condon's. This organization has really botched the handling of Hammond since signing him to an extension. He should be the backup to Andy. He is a fan favourite and has never, since his run been given five consecutive starts to get a rhythm going at the NHL level. Injuries have been a problem, but now that he is healthy give the guy the starts he earned with his stellar play. Another thing, compare his work to Anderson and you will see that he actually gives up the first goal much less often. Nice to have a goalie who keeps you from chasing the game all the time. |

I don't drink coffee...Hammond has had chances to take the lead role and has failed every time. He is what he is, and what most expected him to be after the run...a backup/depth goalie. Condon has come in and been spectacular, with little expectation, much like Hammond did when he was thrust into the role by default.
I didn't say it was on the same level, and it is still very early on but Condon's numbers have been similar to what Hammond posted in that great 1/4 season run. The big difference is that he has a loss on his record early on, before any hyperbolic run could be established, which might work out for the best in his role. Condon may continue, or he may not, to provide stellar goaltending basically out of nowhere, and that is what I was referring to. |

Condon is a better goalie. Hammond had a good run but he's never square to the shooter. There a reason why Hammond cleared waivers. |

I agree calling Condon's play so far reminiscent of Hammond's streak is a little misguided, but your overall assessment on the goaltending could not be more wrong. Hammond is a career AHL goalie who had a hot streak and then was signed stupidly by management. He's had his chances to play well and as Jared mentioned, has failed pretty much every time.
Andy is not the most consistent goalie in the league, but he's the best we have, by a long shot. The "first goal of the game" argument is a tad ridiculous. Give the players in front of the goalie some accountability too. Until Monday, this squad could hardly muster 2 goals a game.
Goaltending is a non-issue right now. |

So no coffee means just fentanyl straight up? Your statement was that Condon's play has been reminiscent of Hammond's streak which is just wrong. I don't think Hammond should be the starter, but his run inidicates he's at least as good as Condon. Injuries are not a disqualifier for someone's career. Please point to one 5 game stretch that Hammond has been given since last season. |

To be fair, Andy has been pretty solid until last game. Hammond had a good run a few seasons ago, but he's settled into a back up role. No team will sit their stater for 5 + games to see if the back up can get in a groove. Also, In The sens defense, they probably signed Condon under the assumption that Andy was going to miss more time then he has. |

I liked hammond, but I have to dissagree. Condon is a legit solid back up tender. In my opinion, he is one of the best back up tenders in the league since he started backing up Carey Price in montreal. Hammond had a good run, and yes he was a fan favorite, but fans want to win games and won't just leave a tender in nets because he did good in the past. It's all about the present. Maybe Condon will tail off, who knows. The biggest difference is that hammond had a tremendous run replacing an injured Anderson when he posted those amazing numbers, while Condon is posting very similar numbers and plays periodically. Maybe with Anderson's personal leave, Condon will get more chances to prove himself. For now, what you said about Hammond not getting 5 straight games might be true, but it's also true for Condon. There's no way sens woudl have won last night if Hammond was in net. Condon did an excellent job and frankly deserves the back up position at this point in time. That will do for a great internal competition for the organization: may the best goalies win their spots in the line-up. |

Well said. Also, Condon is just much better, it was a very low risk acquisition that easily improved the team. Why not play Condon instead? |
