as pointed out you dropped the ball on the Poolman reference but your point about our D prospects is very acuarte. there are none!! top 4 d are nearly impossible to aquire but there most be teams with better options on the 3rd pair than Stuart, Chairot, and Postma that would be interested in our depth forwards like Copp, Petan, Dano? I think it's time for Chevy to make a 1-1 deal including one of our depth forards for a more solid bottom pairing D. I like Copp, Petan and Dano but we have depth with those players and no depth on D.

If you trade Dano or Petan for a 3rd pairing dman, you better hope there's a high pick coming back too. You don't trade a 21 year old top 9 forward for a bottom pairing dman. Copp would also demand more in return.

I think Petan is the only one who could be viewed as a potential top 6, the rest are very solid bottom 6 forwards. We need to make a trade that makes us better, trade from an area of strength for one of weakness. If it makes us better why do we "have to" get more back? I think the drop off from a solid bottom pair D to one of Postma, Chairot or Stuart is far greater than drop off between Dano, Copp, Armia, Mathias or even Kosmachuck, De Leo, Lemieux or Lipon.

Might as well wait it out till next season to add a defenceman. We wouldn't be able to protect him in the expansion draft.

With regards to acquiring another D man. Has everyone forgotten Tyler Myers is due to return real soon? That third pairing will be just fine with Myers back there.

Trading Dano or Petan is just dumb. You'd trade two guys who are coming into their own to try and get a #6 dman better than Chairot or Postma? Really?
Dano, when played as a RW, is already a top 6 forward. His career numbers as a right winger would have him on pace for 60 points a year. He's 21. He also has ridiculous underlying numbers and makes every line he's on better.
Petan has more raw talent than most of our regulars, and it's showing. He makes things happen whenever he's on the ice. His defence could be better, but that comes with experience.
Stafford is gone next year. Matthias is expansion fodder. Burmistrov and Thorburn are gone next year. These two are part of the young core now. Copp is going to be an excellent 3rd liner with some offensive punch, and likely be the 3rd member of the Lowry Armia line. You don't trade any of them for a reason as short sighted or irrelevant as a 3rd pairing dman in a year where we aren't going to have a playoff run.

Our third pairing is horrible!! They are killing us. How often do you expect all your d healthy? I don't, so imagining Myers on the third pair may be nice but with injuries not likely. We need some better d. It doesn't have to cost petan or Dano but chevy needs to do something to add a better third pairing D!!! That is very clear!!!

Vegas would be doing us a favour by taking Perrault and getting us out of that four year deal

A: I agree, the 3rd pairing is bad. Backup there would be nice, preferably bumping Stuart to the AHL and Chairot out of the lineup.
B: Perreault is becoming expendable with all the youngins stealing jobs, but his contract is an absolute steal for what he contributes.
C: can you tell me why the quoting never works for me? Am I the problem?

lol, I have no idea why the quoting wont work for you, i assume you are clicking on the quotes button like the rest of us?

Perrault's only success has come on the wing, so I really hope he doesn't return to center. He had a good year last and earned the contract but if how he is playing this year is a sign of what to expect now, then that contract is no longer a steal in my books and bordering on an anchor.

there are a few teams looking for an upgrade on the wings, Sens, Islanders to name two. Could Stafford net us a 5-6 D? I only see us getting a 3rd rounder for him at the deadline.

Stafford the reputation is far more valuable than Stafford the player, so he would absolutely net us a solid bottom pairing dman.
