If you looked at those numbers of the teams you'd think the Hawks would be around .500.

Except for some other stats, these all 5x5:

Goals against = 28 in 25 games - 1.4 per 60 minutes - 1st in the league (2nd best is 1.73). Last year's leader was at 1.83; Hawks were at 2.11.

Save % = 95.32 - 1st (2nd best is 94.42%). Last year's leader was at 93.49; Chicago was at 92.86.

This on the 27th best shots against number in the league - 23.92 per game.

Says to me - Crawford and Darling.

For whatever reason the Hawks always have trouble in Philly...Philly has won 12 straight against the Hawks at home the lone exception that Cup winner in 2010.

Tough one today.

Hopefully they continue to find a way to bank points here at the quarter pole of the season.

Response to Stl Braves fan,

I do agree CC and Darling get lots of credit, but and it's only my opinion, the defense gets a lot of credit from me, many games especially the stint before the circus trip the Hawks had done a great job of keeping opponents to one and done, and half the ice. I wish our forwards would block more shots and win more board battles believe that would help lowering the shots on goal.

Yeah, but you don't have stats for it.

And if you don't have stats, it didn't happen.

So every game misses will help the cap with him being on IR just making sure. I know that paid off with Kane in 2015.

Just for fun, perfect example was vs the Devils, first goal against was scored on a second, third, or fourth attempt, defense couldn't put a fork in it.

Second goal, on the PK, Nik does the cute no look pass in front of the goalie, which he's done many times at the same time I cringe every time, no chance for Corey

3rd goal Keith with the cute no look pass and let's double down the defensive miscues able to get the pass across the ice for a back door goal.

So two goals directly off of defensive zone turnovers, Jersey most likely only scores one goal in the game without those 2 plays

Should be a competitive game this afternoon. Hopefully we can stay off the PK because the Flyers move the puck well on the PP. Hossa nets another one today... I'm calling it.

Man Hossa has been tearing it up. He's really kept this team going. 4 GWGs so far.
And three of those in the OT. Yikes!

Yes CC is pretty darn ill. Chris Hine is reporting that it could be Jimmy Waite...

Hawks have signed a 23 yo who played club hockey at Temple Univ to an emergency tryout contract. He will wear 50 today due to timing.

I assume the Hogs and Fuel both have games today so none of our minor league goalies can get called up. Couldn't the kid on the PTO get sent to Rockford instead then call up Carruth or Johansson? Not sure how these things work but I'm sure there's some rule that doesn't allow that or else they would've done something like that.

EDIT: I'm sure the travel logistics is the problem, so having a local Philadelphia kid (hence the Temple student) is the only option given it's a day game today.

Sorry quotes not working copied and paste. Yes it was logistics due to early start today the reason they had to go local. No one could get to Philly in time.

Preds claim Boucher off waivers. LA puts Purcell on waivers. O thought this offseason, JJ had said Stan was interested in him at one point. Hard to see 28 teams passing on Purcell.

Curious if Stan tried for Boucher or will try for Purcell for LW depth

Pat and Eddie mentioned it on the broadcast that Crawford is undergoing an emergency appendectomy this morning in Philly...here's to a speedy recovery.

Wow... Puck possession by the Hawks is pathetic. It's really surprising they are up 1-0 after the first period.

I don't know man, Purcell looked awful in LA... If he can't make it in the Sutter system, I doubt he'd do much more than wash towels in Q's...

I know it's his first game back, but Hawks are being outshot like, 9-0 when TVR is on the ice. I don't think he's really got any trade value...
