Do you guys consider taking the drastic step of moving on from one of your core guys or continue to wait it out? If you do, who do you look at moving? Gotta imagine MacKinnon is safe even despite his lack of expected progression and it'd be too early to move Rantanen. Do you stick with Barrie? Johnson? Is Varlamov someone you consider exposing to expansion if his numbers continue their steady decline? So many questions.

Core sticks in my mind, they are not the issue, its getting quality depth players and waiting for the young guys to inject themselves into the line up after the terrible depth has moved on. Compher, Jost, Bigras, Greer, etc. Rantanen is the real deal, that guy is so good to watch. Hes goign to be the Big Swinging Richard at the cracker factory for this team moving fwd

If they do a move, its going to be like Barrie for Trouba style deals. Varly is iffy, but it depends on Pickard if he really is good enough to be a starter. They arent selling off talent

I get that they're not the biggest issue with the roster, but how do you plan to fill out the D?

Bigras- Johnson
Zadorov- Barrie

Is that a good enough D corps to be competitive? I have no doubt the development of guys like Compher, Greer, Jost and Rantanen will bolster the forward depth, but that D corps looks lacking even if you assume everything goes right development-wise.

How can some people say the core is not the problem when their best scorer is Rene Bourque?? Let's face it, the core is not good enough and the supporting core is not good enough neither. They had a great team but they traded some of their building blocks away in Stastny, OReilly, Anderson and Shattenkirk. Imagine having these players instead of Soderberg, Johnson, Varlamov and Colborne.

It's 50/50, the core isn't that good and the depth sucks.

^^To the above post, Anderson sucked and wanted out. Shattenkirk was good, but wouldn't make the team better. Stastny and OReilly would on the other hand. I would have kept OReilly and traded Landeskog. Stastny wanted out, I don't think they could have kept him with out really overpaying.

I'm wondering what dynamic Colorado is constructing because it seems like their players are awfully frustrated.

The stars are sort of aligning for a Duchene trade; he still maintains his value because of the way he plays for Team Canada in May. Other than McKinnon and Barrie and guys like Jost or Rantanen, guys moved from this team would have a much smaller market value than they should. I don't see them moving either of those four guys, but the crystal ball fogs really look like a picture of Duchene's face right now.

Drouin might be a good candidate for a "shake-up" deal.

To be honest Barrie is the question mark there. If they had solid depth and pushed him to 3rd pairing, then they would be in business. I think hes a talented Dman. The top pair with Zads and EJ is pretty solid. Bigras has been out for a concussion all this season so who knows what he will be like after hes healthy. If they were rolling a Bigras Barrie 3rd pair next year and rebuilt the 2nd pair. That would be the most ideal

Dude enough with ROR, he didnt want to be on the Avs, how hard is to see that. If they didnt trade him then, he was going to walk like Stastny. Avs tried to keep staz and he could of resigned at 6.6m but he went for the 7m in St Louis. If they let ROR walk there is no Grigo, Zads, Compher, Greer, and Morrison in this org

Anderson pouted when he didnt get his 4 year contract

Honestly dude yours such a terrible troll, get out of here with your terrible takes on the Avs

According to some insiders who cover the Avs, they almost had him at the deadline but Yzerman backed out of the deal. It was 2 1st round picks (Jost & 2017), Kyle Wood, and Nick Holden.

I think that ship has sailed now.

Does Duchene/Varlomov/tyutin/mid-level pick for TJ Brodie/Elliott/Backlund not feel solid for both teams.

Really free up space to go after Bishop and/or Shattenkirk

2017 blueline

Johnson / Brodie
Shattenkirk / Zads
Barrie / Beauch

Ok I am done dreaming...just wish the Avs were harder to play against...Brodie would go a long way towards that.
