Peter Tessier: Laine pots 2 but Jets blown out. It was another so-called measuring stick game and the Jets came up short....again.

A little GFY to tessier after that beatdown last night

I'm not generally the gloating type, but after all the shots you've taken at the oilers and their fanbase every chance you've had, our second win this season against the jets was sweet.

Two more things- Mcdavids speed wasn't sorta "yes and no" too much for you to handle. It was a resounding yes. He was An absolute beast last night and couldn't be stopped.

Generally a fan of trouba, but wow he was awful last night

Kind of amazing how Postma was excellent when he was with Enstrom, but as soon as he's paired with Chairot or Stuart (puck possession black holes), his game is only noticeable when he screws up. It's almost like he's any other player being paired with a terrible partner.

HAHA

Fair enough- I don't think I take shots at Oilers fans do I? Maybe some of the team for sure.

McDavid is a stud, no question but I don't think he's the one that did the majority of damage last night. I watched him pretty closely and was blown away by his strength and such. I thought Trouba was better than most last night on D for Jets. But as a whole the Jets D is in a rather alarming state of disarray.

Cheers!

you probably dont actually, maybe i just took the shots at my sad sack organization too personally. us oiler fans have taken a beating the last few years

as far as connor, i did think there were others that were effective (draisaitl-lucic etc) but connors the engine and hes always making things happen. when hes got even the tiniest bit of space, its crazy how dominant he can be

if you put Postma and Chairot on wavers, who do you think gets claimed?
won't be Postma
Chairot is a bottom 6 defenceman. Postma never will be. He's only there because of injuries and there's no one else in our system right now.

Postma has never been excelent, not even on the Moose, the guy could make Bobby Orr look bad

Postma gets 0 appreciation outside of the advanced stats community. Makes no sense.
Even just using the "eye test", the least reliable method of evaluating players, he passes. He's one of 3 Jets that excel at shutting down high speed players (along with Morrissey and Enstrom), he's smart enough not to try the constant stretch passes Byfuglien, Chairot, and Stuart seem to think are smart, and he's very rarely out of position. The only knock on him is that he hasn't brought the same elite production he had in the AHL to the next level and that he sometimes loses his man in the defensive zone on set plays. He's an excellent dman on the rush, both offensively and defensively.
Past the eye test, he's even better. He's always had excellent underlying numbers at the NHL level. Given his most common partners (Chairot, Stuart, and Pardy) that means more ice time with better players would likely make him better, as opposed to regressing. Unlike Chairot, whose performance falls apart when he's away from Byfuglien.

Mcdavid is awesome, best in the nHL, nothing negative to say and you guys have beat us twice can't argue that but Although Trouba wasn't at his best last night he is the best D on either team.

I like Draisitle but what has happened to Eberle and RNH? They are getting worse and both looked like Third or fourth liners last night. The oilers goalie and d are improved but far from where they need to be, lucic contract will be anchor long before its done and this team is far to reliant on 97! Do the oilers have any good young tough guys that can play coming up? I just don't see maroon, kaissien and lucic usefull in 2-3 years so who will be there to protect McDavid? Regular season is one thing but come play offs teams will be much harder/dirtier towards him and you wil need long term answers to address that. I also think klefbom and Larson will disappear in the play offs when things get dirtier

You are alone on island with your opinions of postma, who's wrong here? I told you earlier, when the jets cut ties he will be lucky to play another 20 games anywhere in the nhl. Mark my words!

I'm guessing you've only seen him play against the Jets. Larsson is surprisingly physical and doesn't shy away from the dirty areas. He has been more of a physical force than Lucic IMO.

Defence wins games come playoff time. The Jets cannot play defence so no worries about it being a problem in the playoffs. Discipline has to be a close second as a characteristic of a winning team. Again, no relevance to the Jets as they have lacked it since their return to the NHL.

The failure to do both will ensure a history of futility. They on rare occasion show flashes of being a good team but it's all for not. Each time over their history they have started to gain some respect around the league, they quickly prove that it was just that a flash and give the impression they don't know how it even happened.

The Jets have some exciting players but no one in the organization who has proven they can put it all together.

A bubble team at best for years to come, matching the years that have past.

ya, i mean if these kids cant put it all together by 22 we should just cut bait. I will agree though that penalties and team defense have been bad for to long and at some point it will cost Maurice his job

i've seen him play about a half dozen times this year and more in years past. I haven't seen this physical side you speak of

I was rooting for the Devils to win the cup in 2012, and Larsson definitely showed a mean streak against LA. He doesn't have to be mean at 6'3" 220. He just has to be on his feet and nobody can do much to him. Klefbom is the best dman for the Oilers anyway.

Seriously?

Ive seen him lay out guys several times this season. There isn't much of him as an Oiler on youtube but this hit when he was a Devil is pretty much par for the course.

Seriously ??

He's top ten in hits in the league

He seeks out the rough stuff

No disrespect intended, but you haven't seen him play much. Huge part of his game.
To be fair, It was a surprise to me too.
But yeah, larsson is a big powerful fuker. And incredibly physical

Larsson is actually 6th in the league in hits.
Along with guys like Matt Martin, Marcus foligno, clutterbuck etc.

And why does klefbom "disappear in the playoffs"?

He's an absolute beaut. Hes not soft in the least bit. The guy is already unequivocally a top pairing defender. And if he can stay healthy and finally have sustained development, potentially much more.

And why are we concerned about face punchers or policemen in the playoffs 3 years down the road ? Besides, "protection" is a highly overrated part of the game. If someone wants to hit Connor, they hit Connor. Maroon doesn't change that .

Let's just make the playoffs now and worry about where those guys will be when those scenarios even have a hint of becoming reality.

None of these critiques really made much sense. They just seemed like shots at the oilers, just cause.
The oilers have serious deficiencies no doubt. but klefbom, larssons physicality and/or size to play with Connor aren't among them

Thanks for agreeing how worse Eberle and RNH are getting.
