Hamilton is better than Carrick, but the difference isn't large enough to give up JVR. Unless something(s) coming back, it will be a massive overpayment for a second pairing guy.

Yikes, with JVR playing like he is I would want more added. A high end prospect who is expansion exempt should come back maybe even with a pick or I would pass. Including Carrick makes sense since he would be picked off by Vegas but since we are moving the best player, currently, and two young bottom line NHLers with potential for Hamilton alone is too much.

Better off to wait for FA and take a shot at Shattenkirk or Stone for free, especially if we can also draft Liljegren.

Seems like a high price tag, but I don't think its crazy.

Leivo isn't playing and Sosh has jumped ahead on the depth chart

Carrick would be tough to lose because he looks like he may be a decent NHLer down the road. Hamilton should be able to replace that no problem, with a little more stability though.

JVR is the big piece to the trade. He is soft but at the same time is putting up points and is a vet on a young team. The line has been playing well but Marner has been a big factor in that.


Overall I would probably still make that trade on the leafs end.

Edit: Technically Nylander is starting on the 4th line, so leafs shoudnt have to big of an issue filling JVR's spot.

The point isn't to bring in Hamilton to replace a decent defencemen like Carrick. The point is to have him replace one of the poopty defencemen.
