They are really starting Johnson on back to back nights? I guess anything is better then Elliot right now,

Is Jankowski going to get in a game?

Millions tweeted Janko should play. I suspect we'll also see Elliott. They haven't posted the lineup yet but Elliot seems like a no brainer.

No shortage of players who gave a half assed effort last game that could sit for the night.

Except Tkachuk!

If he had of shut down the Flyers, I'd suspect he'd be back but with the loss I'd be willing to bet its Elliot.

I hope so if just to see how he competes at the NHL level (outside pre-season).

According to GG Janko is in.

Won't expect a lot just hoping he does not look out of place with the big boys.

Without trying to insult Todd, I'll do my best Cordell impression:

Although the Flames have received some bad luck in terms of penalties, I do expect that to turn around:

-18(!) roughing penalties in 24 games is unsustainable. The league sits at around 11 on average at this point and you can expect the Flames to head towards the league median as the season goes on.

-While the Flames lead the league in roughing, holding, cross-checking, and holding the stick categories; they sit tied at 20th in hooking calls. This is a testament to Gulutzan's emphasis on an open skating system.

-Although calling so many penalties, while ignoring many of the infractions of the other team, may seem arbitrary; you can expect their numbers to even out as the season progresses.

-The Flames currently have served 13(!) more minor penalties than the next team (STL) below them. Expect a more disciplined team under Gulutzan as the season moves forward.

Tonight's game is scheduled for 7:00 eastern and can be seen on SN-West and MSG+.

To add a little more flavour to this, what I find interesting so far is that there are 5 teams which seem to have a distinct disadvantage in the penalty department:

Shorthanded Opportunities less Power Play Opportunities

Colorado - .85 more SHO than PPO per game
Islanders - .8
Montreal - .73
Calgary .625
St. Louis .5

and there are 6 teams who seem to have really favourable numbers in this department

Powerplay Opportunities less Shorthanded Opportunities

San Jose .73 more PPO than SHO per game
Nashville .62
Tampa .57
Detroit .55
Florida .5
Philly .48

Everyone tends to however around (+/-) .3 PPO vs SHO.

Definite disparity on either end of the spectrum, which I guess is to be expected, and as a team at the negative end of it, it sucks. Now, we also have Tkachuk out there raising hell with 45 PIMS in 20 games, and I don't know that we would say any of those are undeserved penalties...

Hah I would love to see deserved penalty, undeserved penalty, and got away with an infraction stats.

Chicago is tied with us and Minnesota has only two more slashing calls against them than us.

CHI and CGY with 6 and Minnesota with 8. I could swear two of those three teams slash all game.. Hmm.. Nah..

GG is such a motivator, who could possibly replace him? The guy is lost out there, this team isn't this bad. Not that their great but they're a 500 hockey team. Just don't want to waste another year of rebuilding wihile BT waits for some life!

Well my thoughts are a lot of marginal calls. Including gio tipping call if you hit the puck first it's not tripping. Refs have long memories too
