Bob Duff: A frightening display Detroit's current slide has the players concerned by the fashion in which they are giving games away.

No Datsyuk to bail them out, Zetterberg skates like he's 60 now and the defense is a mess. Not to mention too many over the hill grinders and this is what ya get. The real question I have is what do Wings fans think of Blashill as a coach? I haven't watched him enough to really gauge how effective his tactics and line combos are...

The reality is, we lack any form of elite talent which is the difference maker in today's NHL. The Wings are a team that hasnt had any youth really step in, which was always a saviour in the past to bridge the gap to the next generation... so now, they are a middling club with middling players.

Many around here Blashill for the Wings woes, but I dont, not with this bunch of guys. I mean, lets get real here.... how good were the Wings going to be? playoff at best.

I mentioned this yesterday, the only bright spots we have are Howard, Sproul, AA and some potentials in Larkin, Bertuzzi and Mantha.

going to be a long year in motown, finally the other NHL fan bases get their wish and see a DET-less playoff year.

Due to Holland's mismanagement of contracts and signings the last few years and the aging core, this team will not be elite again for at least another 5 years (maybe longer). This team simply does not have the depth it needs to be competitive with the elite teams in either conference. I put more blame on Holland than Blashill who simply doesn't have much depth or any elite talent to work with.

We do have some good prospects in Andreas Athansiou, Mantha, Sproul, and Russo and couple more in Grand Rapids. But those guys are not yet ready to jump right in and have an immediate impact like Larkin did.

As far as Blashill goes.. he seems to want to mirror Babcock's negative habits sometimes which don't always make sense to me. I.E. "tie always goes to the old, useless ineffective veteran" or putting Jurco on the 4th line. Etc.... It's hard to grade a rookie coach who has minimal talent to work with.

This organization is too afraid to fail and it's creating more pain for itself the longer it waits. Every single team that's a contender right now has had a couple years at the bottom, accruing high quality talent in the top 5-10. The argument that "well Edmonton took 10 years of total failure before they found a guy in the draft, do you want to see that too?" is such garbage. Despite what a lot of fans think right now, this organization has enough scouting talent to turn it around a lot quicker than 10 years. You can't just point to the most extreme situations in the league and be afraid it will happen here too. You cannot be afraid to fail. Every great team right now had periods of failure and they're better off because of it in the long run.
