If Kane is costing too much for Vans liking then why would they go after Saad ?

He will probably cost more

He would, but the reward is much greater. If CBJ are looking to trade him JB should be in there figuring out what it would take.

Why do we have to give up our top young players to get anyone. We're not going to be in the playoffs soon so why not just hang on to all of our good prospects and young players rather than trade off the farm to get one of these guys that we can draft or develop. I think we should be in a build for the future philosophy. I like the pick ups for Gudbranson and Granlund but giving up McCann plus a first rounder and Shinkaruk makes no sense unless you think we're going to the playoffs. Just the thought of trading away prospects for other prospects seems to be a lateral move.

Sadly this franchise is currently in a bad situation with the ownership to the President and on down to the GM and the coaching staff. Their futility is right there in front of everyone to see, going on two years running now.

How they can continually say they believe they can make a push for the playoffs is beyond comprehension. It's just so far out of reach! And now they're talking trades, Jesus, what's wrong with these idiots?

If you're gonna trade Tanev, which I'm totally onside with, trade him to someone like Colorado who's got a good young NHL core but are lacking in defence and depth. See if you can get Jost out of them. Build towards the future three years down the road.

Until they start admitting they need to rebuild and actually commit to one, this poop-show will continue on. No wonder this (frank)ed up franchise has never won. Mismanagement and bad ownership decades running.

Personally, I'd be much more willing to listen to a Chicago fan, or Pittsburg fan come here to talk about how to rebuild. They at least have won multiple Cups with their cores and continue to threaten to win more.

All we really need is a bonafide 1C prospect to take over in 2 to 3 years when the Sedins are ready to either retire or drop to a much lesser role on the team. The mania from some posters on this board for the superstar is quite bewildering to me, because teams like Chicago, LA, Boston and Detroit, all teams who have won the Cup in the past decade with the exception of Pittsburg don't have a superstar generational center. Toews is close, but he's no threat to win the Art Ross, neither is Kopitar and Bergeron is probably the best pure two-way center in the NHL today.

I wonder what group I'd fall under, I'm definitely not a Sky-Is-Falling or Drama Queen, I don't think I'm a Circle Jerker, I might be a bit of a Lemming, but I dunno. we need to make a list of who is what and post the definitions of each group.

You are a moderate sir. However, it's a misunderstood position so get used to being accused of being something else because of the entrenched positions so prelevant amongst some.

Next summer I could see that deal maybe

Asking for Jost would warrant the same reaction as other teams asking for Boeser/Juolevi/Demko. I think that Tanev, while underrated, still does not fetch the return that people are expecting.

You have to explain it in layman terms for Red.

Exactly, look down the road, picking up a 24 year old winger who will be 29 by the time you're good again is senseless.

And for the record it was McCann and a 2nd rounder for Gud.

For one the Avs are in a much different situation than the current rendition of the Canucks, they actually have good young players on their team. It's time for them to compete.

If Adam Larson can get one of the best LW in the league Tanev should be able to get you an unproven prospect.

There was no first rounder given up. If you like the pick ups then you should know they are also players that will be relevant for years. The two sent away. Well one may be just a career AHLer. The other not a top 6 forward where you get in return a young vet top 4RD in return that has lots of value.

Starting goalie for a 29th placed team has the "flu" and will miss the game against the 30th placed team?

Having a few players in their prime and well rooted in the team's culture is not a bad thing. Besides, Guddy may open up other options. If JB moves Tanev for instance... and he'll be good on a team full of younger players as well. He has a tremendous rep for leadership not to mention his reputation for protecting team mates. I wouldn't feel that when we are ready in 5 years(hypothetically), a 29-year-old in his prime is out of place either. There's room both short term and long term for a player like this.

It's simple to dismiss everything as senseless when you base it on a single move and not knowing what the GM is thinking down the road.

People seem to think if we do a long term rebuild, anything over the age of 24 on the team is deviating from the plan. Oilers model.
