Solid post.

Nelson looks like he has the offensive side of his game down, but still needs work defending his own end. Kapanen was his man in front of the net when he scored and his guy on the next highlight rang it off the post after beating Nelson to the puck. I think a season in Rochester will serve him well and likely have him much more ready to take over for Franson next year or Gorges the year after.

Fasching has more speed than I realized, nice to see him bury that breakaway... would have been nice if Kane would have had the same result with his breakaway against Montoya. Nice to see Bailey tip Fedun's shot past Sparks on the PP, but I am not sure why he was drifting so far away from the net on that play... Bailey, with his size, needs to be camped in front of the net on that play. He has to learn that his size, strength and speed combo is his ticket to the NHL. If he keeps floating around the offensive zone and avoiding the rugged areas on the ice, he will fail to stand out. His skill alone isn't going to be enough. Nylander, on the other hand, has already shown terrific vision and has done better than I expected in his first few games. I thought he would be overmatched in size and strength, but he is finding where he can be effective in the space available to him... if he keeps this up, I would be shocked if he didn't earn a call-up later this year. He could probably replace Ennis now if the Sabres needed him to do so. They both play a similar perimeter game.

Interestingly, Shea has been playing on the left side so far this season. He's usually been a right-side defenseman.

I am officially disheartened. I watched a ton of hockey this week and its time to admit the "rebuild" is a colossal failure. Matthews looks GREAT, Laine looks GREAT, Ekblad already one of the best defemseman in the league, Gaudreau...fantastic....Nylander on the Leafs, Marner....Schefle on the Jets....all these AMAZING players....the two guys WE got for suffering??? NOTHING......I wanted to love this team so badly. Its a bust. Vesey has 3 goals ...#2 overall Reinhart that we "suffered for"...nothing but a turnover to LOSE a game. The goalie is terrible. McDavid FIVE TIMEs the player the OTHER #2 we "suffered" for. one..ONE NHL quality defenseman who is a #3 at best. Girgensons BUST....Ennis....useless.

Although i do agree for all of your sufferring adding Risto, Eichel and Reinhart wasnt very much, and more could be had if not for GMTM escalating things, but when he did he landed you guys Ryan O Rielly, who is a prefect compliment and core piece.

The only real gaffe I see was the horrible Meyers/Kane trade, the rest was bad lotto luck.

Be patient. You might add another nice piece this draft as well.

You guys need to keep aquiring defenders...some of your young guys are ok, but Georges and Bogosian will be wither too old or too broken to be a factor once you guys contend. Wingers come easy.

Eichel will be fine. He's a good player. Samson, while not in his class, will be a decent second liner.
As much as some folks pump some Sabres tires, the fact is the jury is still out on this young team. Risto is a good young D but he still has a ways to go. Eichel is good, but he ain't a generational player. McDavid, yes.
The jury is out on the Goalie too. He has never played a full season. Kane will continue to be a distraction. Never living up to his potential. Plenty of bad contracts. Moulson, Ennis. Bogosian and Kulokov have well earned reputations for lacking hockey sense despite being signed on big ticket deals.
The jury is still out on this group. It's good to see they are having fun dressing up though.
