I'd give up a 4th in a second for McI but I'm currently not employeed as an NHL GM.

Calling it, McIlrath within a year or 2 ends up in Philly or New jersey & makes us pay for years.

Which is something AV and Gorton likely are factoring in as well

I just don't get it, giving up on him after you picked him at #10, yada yada, we know about all that I know. But for him not to get a regular look for Holden or Clendenning, or a old & brittle Dan Girardi.

I agree. Seems like he was not given the same chance as others.
I still see him as a dirt cheap 3rd pair or 7th defensemen option, but they aren't willing to give him the opportunity to seize the spot with the guys they brought in and the issues with G and Staal having to play because of their cap hits

But that's the route they are going so it is what it is. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the arse too hard.

The huge issue is he doesn't have options. If he could be sent down it would be, ok, whatever. Guys will inevitably get hurt or just plain suck & he can be recalled. fn waivers

I mean he is a good kid who works hard. I hope if he goes elsewhere he has a good career. It just wasn't meant to be in NY

Even frenchie thinks it's a good idea to have one of the best passers play with 2 high energy, shoot first guys? Not with a slow, dump and chase guy...?

Gorton's done well so far, but the defense situation looks like hell.
McIlrath should be playing every game... mistakes expected. I would make some bold moves forcing AV's hand to play the kid. I would deal Klein for a pick n prospect ASAP. And i would send Girardi down to the farm. Holden has shown he could play his off side so we would be ok there.
I would call up Summers to be 7th dman, cause i know AV wont play him for long in lieu of McIlrath.

At the deadline you make your deal to improve the D

I would retain half of Staal's contract and ship him out and bring John Gilmour up. Nash for futures too... id even listen to offers on Hank...

The organization has failed how they have handled McIlrath... and he will be a good asset... he's just about there already

Before the bashing begins, cause i probably hit a nerve when i mentioned Hank, let me just state that we have some really poorly negotiated contracts on the books... no reflection on the players... it's just business... Hank makes 1.5 mil too much and for 3 years too many... Girardi over Strahlman? Staal???

I think they can move 1 or 2 without killing the youth... its just going to take time... G to the far ASAP and buy him out next season...

I think AV is making a big mistake not playing McIlrath over Girardi or Clendening.

Wasn't AV putting the lines through the blender last season every game looking for the perfect fit only to find he was (frank)ing it all up? Can't he just pick & stick for a while & let the players acclimatise themselves with each other??

I'll give it another 8-10 games of bad/mixed results before AV's head on a platter is being shouted from the Empire State Building.

I don't know if I'd call putting Zuccarello with Kreider and Zibinajed is "demoting him"

That line has potential to be pretty bad ass IMO
