Actually he's pretty spot on with the standings this season so far. Power rankings are for the most recent level of play not for the expected level of play.

Why did Pete even write anything if he's not going to contribute to the article.
Kind of embarrasing writing.

Huh? The oil have played nobody who is any good and they are allowing more than three goals a game. Special teams stats are decent. Getting destroyed in the face off dot. Maybe at this point they are middle of the pack. But until they beat a team that doesn't suck I won't hold my breath.

Power rankings are purely win/loss related. Fancy stats are ignored mostly.

Most power rankings are weighted more to recent W/L after week 2 or so. But still it's more win loss than other stuff that stat geeks look at. They may speak to that in blurbs accompanying the rankings but it's not the main basis.

Six teams haven't lost yet. A lot of teams have the same record as Edmonton. Ottawa has the same record and has scored just as many goals. So w/l doesn't put them top five. And digging deeper and looking at any stats also puts them out of the top five. Feel free to prove otherwise

NHL.com league-wide standings page had Edmonton at 4 yesterday afternoon when I posted. That's where I got my information.

And today they are at 2...
