Yes, they have picks to offer. Don't be naive. He isn't worth a top flight prospect. That said, this makes zero sense for the Kings. MAF is under contract for the next XXX years at 5.75 million. So, they give up a second round pick only to expose him to the expansion draft after the season and if not taken, they have to expensive goalies. They don't have cap room for MAF, unless Dustin Brown is coming back and Rutherford knows better on that one.

Pittsburgh will be looking for a pick, probably a late first or a second rounder. Nothing more.

I got excited thinking that maybe the Pens nerve-wracking goalie situation vis-a-vis the expansion draft / protecting Murray might be solved. But then I saw it was an Eklund rumor so I know it has zero percent chance of actually happening.

I think Fleury will have more suitors than people realize and I think his value will only get higher the closer it gets to the trade deadline.

Actually, the Pens want to trade him so they can protect Murray in the expansion draft. Shedding salary is a bonus, but if it weren't for the expansion draft, I think the Pens would be fine with rolling both Fleury and Murray this season. They are up against the cap but the Pens have no pressing needs for a player or cap space right now or in the foreseeable future.

If LA lands a goalie from Pittsburgh it'll be Condon on waivers once Murray is activated off IR

It's both. It's protecting Murray AND shedding salary. It's not a bonus. It's a necessity. They need to shed cap space for next year to resign the RFAs, possibly Bonino and possibly Daley depending on how the other Dmen, absent Letang and Dumo play.

Bishop makes a TON more sense for the Kings since he is a FA after the season.

probably, but that doesn't really help you toward helping the playoff cause, if that is the goal. If Quick is out for an extended period of time, you won't be in playoff contention by the time he returns. I'm thinking Bishop from Tampa. Condon was already passed by the Kings and that was after the Quick injury, so ...

As for the off-season, Kunitz, Dupuis, Scuderi, and Cullen come off the books. If the Pens re-sign Daley, it won't be for the $3.3 mil that he is making now. Chances are they let him walk as he will be 34 and is not that great to begin with (a good second-pairing when healthy and playing well, a third-pairing when he is struggling). I also don't think Bonino gets a huge payday from the Pens. He might from another team, but I don't see the value some others see. He is easily replaceable. The only RFAs getting significant raises are Dumo and Murray, but both will be bridge deals.

Pretty sure nobody wants Condon. After all, he made it through waivers to the last spot (Pittsburgh's). He's not a goalie to get you to the playoffs or beyond, as Montreal found out.

So even if they traded Fowler (4.0m cap hit), they'd still have to move another significant contract to have room for the 5.5mil + that Lindholm would presumably get

They couldn't really take any salary back
Anaheim is in a really rough spot & seems ripe to be taken advantage of

I think once a player with a no-trade clause waives it to be traded or who has a limited no-trade clause and is traded, that player can then be exposed in the expansion draft. So that would make sense on that front. And they wouldn't want to protect him because then they would be left with two high-priced starting goalies.

Let's back down champ a bit. If Maatta is making 4 million, Dumo will be getting at least that. That is a big raise. Murray will be in the 4-4.5 range ... that is up 3+ million. Doesn't matter if its a bridge deal. They will get significant raises. Sheary will double his salary at least. Might not sound like a lot, but its $$$. If Bones bolts, you need to find another third line center. That might cost more than 1.9, which is what he is making. Sundqvist isn't a third line center and I don't see Fehr being the answer with Hags and Kessel. We haven't even talked about Schultz, who is a RFA. Daley might not make 3.3, but it might be a necessity to resign. Dupes money might come off the books, but WE ARE USING IT, so there is no real difference. Bones ... easily replaceable? I don't think you have paid attention to his play with Hags and Kessel. That isn't an easy replacement.

God I hope this isn't true. Just let the season play out. If the kings don't make the playoffs Oh well. This season was lost in the first period of the first game. Stop giving away picks and prospects for 1 yr rentals!
