yeah that's just terrible luck for Kane... that's the problem with guys that big, when they go into the boards at full speed like that they go (frank)ing hard.

Murray will be working the phones I was told if things don't get better and the kids don't work out. They will keep trying different line combos and shift players around.

im trying to be positive about it. i loved Subban but i recognize that maybe trading him had to be done. and how can you not like Weber on your team... Shaw's a bit disappointing with his antics. that stuff last night was bs. if he cuts it out he'll be effective. i think ultimately they'll be better prepared for the playoffs but still a long way to go.

i was surprised by the Sabres last night given they were missing so much top end talent. they took it to Montreal for long stretches.

I think aside from deslaurers and foligno, team responded just like when lucic and miller were on the ice

can't believe I stayed up til 330 am to watch that crap

Second.

As usual, a nice written balanced article. I like the fact there was no "homerism" in your comments regarding the Emelin/Kane incident. That was an unfortunate situation where Kane got hurt. Poop happens at those kinds of speeds. Emelin didn't deserve a penalty on the play.

Moving forward...

From Sabres PR, the lines and d-pairings from this mornings practice:

Okposo-O'Reilly-Reinhart
Foligno-Larsson-Gionta
Deslauriers-Grant-Ennis
Moulson-Girgensons-Fasching

Gorges-Ristolainen
McCabe-Bogosian
Kulikov-Franson

Beyond the 1st line and 2nd D, that is one messed up line-up.

Gorges has to move back to the 3rd pairing. He was brutal last night. Either put Kuli or McCabe in with Risto. After last night, I would rather see Nelson play than either Gorges or Franson.

Regarding the forwards, there is no way Gionta should be on the second line. Move Ennis up. Plus you have to put our leading goal scorer ahead of De-lo and Foligno. Larsson at #2 (for now) I am ok with. Too bad Girgs didn't do much last night.

Don't know as of yet if he is even going to go that route, it will depend on how the team responds in the next couple weeks. It won't be Reinhart or players like him, Bailey has been asked about before a few times and Murray has said no. As of now it's hard to say, waiting to see how things work out is what will happen for now.

Reinhart is very underrated IMO, when the Sabres are talked about he is hardly even mentioned and he should be.

I think Reinhart is going to step up big in the next few weeks. He's definitely overlooked but I think he'll be our obvious second-best player by the end of the year.

When Kane when down my first thought was please don't be a shoulder. When he couldn't get up I knew it wasn't but I was worried he might have punctured a lung.

It looked bad, really bad.

He was noticeably a difference maker when he was on the ice last night too.

Those line combos don't look great...

This is going to be a long two months.
