It's a new season and time for a fresh start. Move Yak and get back something fair. It's not going to be a make or break move either way. Even if you play him and he does well no other GM is going to bet heavily on that small sample.

Boy did Daryl Katz and Kevin Lowe ever (frank) up that franchise badly. It's only thru complete luck and mismanagement that they're going to succeed at all from their high draft picks.

Thank gawd we didn't have to hear what that bone head James Tanner had to say. Maybe Eklund should trade him for someone with common sense.

If the return is poopty, why bother. Might as well hold on to him and hope he becomes a better player.

I'm still having a hard time believing they couldn't get something interesting for him.

As Adam said, there are other "projects" our there not really working out, a swap could do everyone some good.

I actually think tanners a quality writer, but I'll agree that it woulda just been more of the same.
"Everyone else's fault. Mact, Eakins, McClellan, Katz, chiarelli, linemates etc add whoever else to the list you like"

As usual it seems Adam French Hit nail on the head. We can play the blame game all we want, or continue to hope that if we hold on just a little longer maybe this time his value will go up.
I believe yaks can be a quality nhl'er somewhere else, But his game has so many flaws and he struggles far more often than he excels. so maybe it's just time to move on from a situation that just isn't working..?

I'd love to see him succeed, it'd do so much for the organization. On the ice hugely, but even off the ice giving chiarelli so many more options.
But watching rookie caggiula and castoff versteeg (2 of those aforementioned terrible linemates that havent given yaks the opportunity to succeed) have solid/effective nights this preseason while yaks is lost and useless on the other wing, makes it easy for me to sleep well even if we deal him now for a mediocre return

TO PIT: Yak + 2nd
TO EDM: Derek Pouliot + Eric Fehr

Moving Fehr is for financial purposes

Remove the 2nd and you have an interesting proposal imo.

So glad Adam French joined that conversation because everyone is basically suggesting that the Oilers field a sub par team for XXX amount of games in hopes that Yakupov finally figures out how to play in the NHL after 5 years.

The Oilers finally have a roster that could "maybe" shelter and hide Yak while he tries to figure things AND provide him with a skilled center to boot but really... Why would the Oilers risk 10, 20, or 82 games with a guy who has as much trouble as Yakupov has had to be an impact player.

20 games of Yak playing like he did last year could potentially mean an extra 3-5 losses??? Edmonton had a lot of 1 goal games where the difference really could have been playing a better two way player instead of Yak.

In training camp literally all of the following has shown approximately as much or more than Yakupov:

Cagulia (sp?)
Versteeg
Pitlick
J. Puli
Slepyshev
Kharia

Sure Yak is more "skilled" than the above but the above are equal to or better hockey players as Yak is right now.

Yakupov for Fehr and Prow/Dea/Sundquist.

I think Yakupov could really thrive on a line with Malkin and Rust. That's really the only fit for the Pens though. I don't think he would work with Crosby's line and I wouldn't touch the HBK.

I think Fehr is the kind of player Chia would appreciate and the Pens could sweeten it with a mid range prospect. Pouliot is more valuable to the Pens than the Oilers at this point.

I mentioned drake and versteeg, but yes, I forgot about pitlick who's been far better than yaks as well. As has slepyshev

But yeah it's the organizations fault. Feed yaks those minutes while benching those guys cause he deserves it
