I see Nelson as the #7 & Falk as the #8. Most teams carry 13F, 8D & 2G. Not all but it makes more sense to have extra Dman around. In a pinch they can always be deployed as forwards.
With Risto not yet signed & Bogo hampered by injury yet again Nelson's skill set is a better fit, although at 24 he's better served to play more minutes in the AHL but not certain that's happening. He didn't look good the other night going minus 5 but it's just exhibition.

The D looks to be in rough shape. I don't think Murray has done enough to solidify the D. To me, Bogo, Gorges, Franson and Kulikov are bottom pair D-men 5-7 range.
Getting solid D help is not easy (without overpaying during FA). Although I want better Dmen, you have heard the price for the "available" dmen through trade and no one would pay it (Reinhart for Shattenkirk). So what is Murray to do with that?

I hope I'm wrong. - mattsox
They were 16th last year in GA. No reason to believe they'll be worse. They'll be fine
Clayton Stoner on waivers today (Ducks), so this must be their roster move to save some cap space (praying someone just takes him)? Instead of trading Fowler?
Granted it will only save them ~$500k (I think) by burying contract in AHL (if that happens)

I was thinking maybe we pick him up. If bogo or Kulikov are missing games, not a definite yet but just in case, could be a depth guy

We gave up a lot of zone time and our D was pretty bad at transitioning defence into meaningful offence (or even just getting the puck out of the zone) which contributed to low goal scoring. I think Lehner can keep the goals against down, the rest is on the defence and they're not good at it.
