Some very good points here. The big counter-point to the "see if he does as well this year" is the obvious "what if he does way better this year?" He's a really solid player that plays on a very good line. What if he's worth far more than $6mil a year at the end of this season?

Yes, but who can the Hawks get rid of to make space?

The only player with a large contract and a no movement clause is Krueger. So the next question is who do you have to give up to sweeten the pot for someone to take Krueger's 3milion off your hands?

Just trade him for a bunch of picks or prospects.

He most definitely deserves it based off of last seasons play and I have a hard time seeing him have a significant letdown.

The chicago core is still young enough to challenge for a few more cup and Panarin being part of that core makes it more likely.

Salary cap is always an issue for Chicago but they always seem to make it work. Personally I think they should be moving Seabrooke. He is a very good player but I think his value is more inflated than any other player on that roster and his play has taken a step back.

Pokka and Forsling are not ready yet but have shown good development and some GM will pay big for a top 2 D like Seabrooke and his "intangebles".

could be another victim of the salary cap from Chicago.

If Pokka is ever anything more than a marginal bottom pairing guy who shuffles to and from the A I'd be shocked. The Leddy deal with the Islanders was a colossal trainwreck and THIS guy is all we got left to show for it, and I'm not impressed at all.

Forsling on the other hand? We got a legit prospect there.

Yes, Hawks have to pay him. Because while the rest of the league plays nice with the other 29 teams as far as not offering an RFA a contract....the Hawks RFA's got offered contracts or will get offered contracts if it reaches that stage. Hence the reason we dealt Saad and Shaw the past two years. Pay him the 6X6. Also, if cap stays at 73 million they really don't need to get rid of anyone mathimatically. Sure...it will be tight, but it is certainly doable.

I'm a Hawks fan, but I'm saying no.

He's dynamic and looked great last season, but there's no gurantee he can play that way year in and year out.

I still don't agree with the Toews and Kane money.

St.Louis would be the #1 candidate to get him, considering Tarasenko is bestfriends with the guy.

Fair enough, I haven't kept up to date on Pokka.

I hope Forsling makes it, he seems to be one of the new style D and its sounds like he has improved significantly.

The money only matters if you can't win. 3 Cups in 7 years or whatever it is suggests otherwise IMO. This league is incredibly to be consistent in and even harder to win the cup without luck. To repeat as many times as chicago has while still having relatively young star, I would suggest Hawk fans have nothing to complain about.

They'd have to trade 7 or 50 to make it work...

And for 6 mill I'd rather have Saad. Speed, size, possession, plus hands...

If panarin was UFA he would get 8 per year next summer. He's better than any of the guys who signed for 6. His stats are also better than saad. Saad 6/6 contract covers 4 rfa years. Panarin on a 6/6 would be 2 rfa and 4 UFA years. Panarin will easily get an 6/6 offer sheet. Would you rather pay lucic or ericcson that kind of money or offer sheet panarin and give up a 1, 2, and 3 pick. Easy decision.

Actually thought panarin was the first hawks player to offer them a hometown discount. Provided he likely wanted to sign the extension this summer so he can lock in earnings and not take a year of injury risks. If he performs this year I wouldn't be surprised if his asks goes up to 6 years 42. 6/36 might just be a discount for him to avoid a year of injury risks or poor performance.

Nope. Send him to the Blues so he can play with his buddy Tarasenko, where he should've been all along.

If Panarin gets $6MM that means the Hawks will have $63,250,000 in cap tied up in:

Toews, Kane, Hossa, Panarin, Anisimov, Seabrook, Keith, Crawford, Hjarlmarsson, Kruger and Van Riemsdyk.

All of the above but Anisimov, Kruger and Van Riemsdyk have NMCs. Bank on Panarin getting one too.

Using $73MM as next years cap number, the Hawks will have $9.75MM minus any bonus money Panarin and Kempny earn this year, to sign four more forwards, at least two defensemen (Van R will be exposed in the draft unless protected), and a backup goalie (Darling will be a UFA). That is seven guys with less than $7MM.

Now with the new team in the league next year the HRR gets split with one more team, and unless the CAN$ gains its 20% loss back, I dont see the cap going up much at all.

Its been a good run and this may be the last year for a while. The Hawk prospect pool is thin, small and inexperienced.
