At this point, with this roster, there's no reason we shouldn't be in the running for the Cup. Do I have my expectations set that they will win it? No, not at all. Anything can happen - injuries, running into a hot team in the playoffs, etc. BUT I think last year was a huge success even without the Cup. Who would have thought that we'd be playing in the Cup final a year after missing the playoffs? I do believe that we would have a Stanley Cup had any other team made it out of the East. The Penguins were just too good.. most of us knew we were in trouble after watching Game 1.

My expectations are high. I think we should definitely have a deep playoff run again.. but it's definitely not Cup or bust. There's just too many things that can happen

Beating the Kings will help because the media will stop talking about it every time they play. I predict the Sharks will make it to the final 8, after that anything can happen since injuries will always play a part.

The bar is always to win the Cup and especially now..this tam finally played to it's potential during last years playoff run and they should do it again this year. The pne negative is that Doug didn't get a proven backup for jones this year when many were available and were very cheap to boot...
I don't care about the President's trophy or winning the division....we want The Cup

I think for the top teams in the league, Penguins, Sharks, Lightening. Blackhawks, Capitals are mainly who I am talking about, anything other than winning the cup is a let down. They have all made the playoffs almost every year the past 5 maybe? Just spitballing but it is expected they are there so that can't be the bar. Regular season isnt a good one because every player admits that it just matters you get in. Winning a more than just 1 round is nice but for these teams that have been there to me the only way one of those teams is satisfied at the end of the season is winning it all. Thats how I have felt at least. Maybe being fortunate enough to be a hawks fan right now thats the mentality that we are spoiled with. I will still enjoy the entire season and watch just about every game but if they do not win it all at the end of the season it is not really a success. That is the goal for these teams. They are not rebuilding, not trying to make the playoffs for the first time in years, they are trying to win. I dont think that any players on those teams would be satisfied with anything but the cup either. In a league with 1 winner and 29 losers, the only thing that matters for those top teams in the league is being that 1.

Now for Edmonton, Arizona, and Toronto, they are rebuilding so their goals are not so lofty for this season. That is their goal long term but right now they just want to be taking steps.
