Isnt 6 mil per year the going rate for guys that put up 20-25 goals and 50-60 points now? Marchand can easily do that and continue to be an irritant to opponents. I'm not expecting 30+ goals per season for 8 years. But he will get damn close and you can bet he will be in that 50-60 point mark (if not more some years) for most of his contract.

This is one of the better things Sweeney has done so far.

The shade people are throwing at Marchand is hilarious. I think the fact is that we watch him every night, and understand the player he is. Most people just think he's a rat with not other skills that got lucky and scored 37 goals... which couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm fine with letting everyone say how foolish it is, and having him and Bergeron continue to be one of the most underrated top lines in the game. Doesn't even matter who's on the right side.

I hate marchand as a dude, but he is legitimately good and I think it is hilarious that people just pretend he had a fluke year as well

Not crazy about the 8 years but the money is a good fit for Sweeney & Co

Now they need to add Trouba

Good evening gents!

A new season, a new challenge, so first of all....good luck to the Bs this year.

As for Marchand, I think it is a very good signing. He has been one of the best players, close to the top for Canada in the WC. I only get to see him a half dozen times during the season, and of course I Hate Him, but at 6+ for what i have seen I think it's a great deal. He has matured really well!

Enough said, Bonne chance!! See you during the season.

Merci beaucoup monsieur. Very respectable post from the rival.

I don't think there was a better scenario than this. Say what you will about long contracts, but having Marchand, bergeron, krejci, and Backes as the core forwards for the next 5+ years is probably the best 3-zone core in the league. Factor in some young talents around them in Pasta, Spooner, Vatrano, Belesky, etc. and I really like the forwards moving forward.

Good for Marchand. Why he hasn't received much pp time is surprising. Buckle down Boston; with the confidence Marchand is gaining in the WCH where he is surprised that he can play with the very best, watch out. He could score 45 this year if not more.

I was hoping Benning would lure him in to Vancouver.

Oh well, he's a great player. Someone you hate every god damn day unless he's on your squad.

I dont think the cap will be an issue either.

Cheers!

I like the idea of having the best offensive tandem locked up for 13M. Marchy and Bergy are magic together.

Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are both still alive you know?

But yeah sure, Bergeron and Marchand are pretty good together.
