You sure you don't want Dennis Wideman?! We'll trade him and Micheal Ferland and a 2nd to you for Trouba... |

Notwithstanding anything else, Trouba doesn't seem like the type of "team first" player they'd be looking for. |

He'll be fine once the cheques start rolling in.
Every player is a selfish wiener when negotiating a new deal...
It's not like his name is Kane, and he'd be a headache once the season starts. |

I don't think the Leafs would do this. I'm not even sure they would to do a Gardiner for Trouba swap straight up for a couple reasons. First, the cap it. Gardiner is locked in at just a tad over 4 million until 2019. That's a great deal if you talk the the analytics guys and still an OK deal for the 'eyeball' guys. Maybe if the Leafs were allowed to talk numbers with Trouba before hand (doubtful), it wouldn't be as bad as some are suggesting (6 mill +? . . no way) I am sure they would want to meet with him anyway to get a feel for who he is. Guys who demand trades (Personally, I love it, it causes movement sometimes and that's entertainment) are putting themselves ahead of the team and that doesn't fit with Lou's way historically. |

I think the issue with Trouba is that he wants to get paid big, but can't because he hasn't gotten the opportunity to showcase his skills and demonstrate his value. It's not just about minutes, but opportunity. Realistically, he has no choice but to play this card, he isn't going to jump ahead by Buff or Myers. |

I wouldn't mind Trouba for Mcdonagh |

That ain't happening though, but maybe Brady Skjei as a centerpiece? Skjei is exempt from the expansion draft too, so you could protect Myers, Buff, and Enstrom and keep Skjei. |

I think Jets would have done that if it was on the table.
McDonagh has the one of the best cap hits. |

I proposed a deal with Gardiner the other day in the leafs thread. And I was convinced by giving up Gardiner + is a bit much.
Gardiner is a top 4 LHD who drives possession and can QB the 2nd power play. And is locked in an cap friendly contract until 2019.
I agree however, Kapenen is a great starting point. He has a lot of upside.
How bad Do the Jets want a LHD going back ? |

I have a hard time seeing Toronto giving an arguably better defenseman up who is going to cost significantly less for the next 3 years. Trouba may surpass him, but thats a big maybe. Maybe armia plus trouba. Not a one for one swap. You can bet your hat kapanen isn't going back as well. |

Tough to give up Nurse. Could end up being better. But on the other side Trouba is a lot more proven.
I think I would work. |

Agreed. He's not close this defense guru best defense in the league like Tanner seems to think. But he's a perfect second paring number 3 guy who drives possesion.

I do think Trouba is an upgrade over Gardiner. But the Leafs would be trading away a great contract for what is bound to be a terrible one
Not only that, but you're trading a kid who's been crapped on consistently by the Toronto media and come away smiling. Great attitude. For a kid who has the audacity to demand a trade at such a young age, because he doesn't wanna be in Winnipeg (let's be honest - that's the reason)
I'd pass, if I'm Lou. Unless you get some type of assurance that Trouba will take an annual salary in the $5M range

Tanner also thinks rundblad and shenn are top pairing defensemen so I wouldn't put too much stock into his opinion. Yea I don't see Gardiner leaving at his current price point. Babs doesn't seem to mind him and is putting him in positions to succeed. I could see 40+pt seasons for him and Reilly with the influx of scoring their rookies are going to bring.
Hes no juggernaut is his own end, but that's fine. As long as he can transition and eat up offensive zone starts.
Trouba may be the better defenseman in two years time. Or he may not be. Just as likely to go either way therefore not worth torontos time. |

Agreed with this. I don't think the Leafs would make good trading partners with the Jets. |
