Take the Devils off your dartboard of names to associate with Kucherov. The Devils are not eligible to give a significant offer sheet because they don't have their own 3rd round pick.

Kucherov is worth around 6.5M per, judging by the recent signings of Monahan and MacKinnon, who both put up worse numbers last year. So with that said, there is no way Tampa matches unless they move Bishop very quickly..

Kucherov is only 23 and has scored a combined 59 regular seasons goals the last two seasons, as well as 21 playoff goals in 43 games during the same time period. There is no chance the Lightning get him signed for under $6.5M, which is about how much cap space they have.

If a team were to sign him to an offer sheet for around $7.5M/year (just under the next tier of compensation), Tampa Bay would either have to trade Bishop for less than they'd like or get creative with a cap dump or buyout.

Kucherov is already one of the best wingers in the league and getting better. He deserves to get paid like it.

If it were just about anywhere else than TB you would be right, but it seems players are very inclined at signing for less because of the tax rate.

Of course they don't realize that their tax saving will go up in the air if/when they are traded...
